Jones looks like he's going to get the nod.

I don't have as many problems with him, though I won't forget when he endorsed McCain after endorsing Bush...

I am in Texas and I'd probably go with Jones, I've actually heard of him way over here, so thats name recognition.

Why is Kaloogian guy in the race??

It does seem that way.

Do you think he could give Boxer a good run?

If he can raise money and is strongly supported by Arnold.

I'm thinking with Arnold in the governor's mansion, Jones giving Boxer a run for her money, and Bush making some strategic visits, Kerry will be forced to waste money to hold down this state, thusly he has less resources for key states.

This sort of strategy should be at the top of Bush's campaign to-do list. He must force people like Kerry to spend in places he would normally win. A strong bottom of the ticket as well as top of the ticket will do this.

No doubt but does he have the support to stand against both Boxer and Rove.

Therein lies the California dilemma.

If you are anything but a moderate, Rove will make sure the deep pockets disappear when the going gets tough.

As it stands now any conservative running in a California election for a national office better have a "on fire" grass roots movement behind them or they're doomed. Jones lacks that fire in his belly to rally the base and crossover voters.

Ping to actual poll results.

Hey Impeach98, you never did cough up the "source" that supposedly had Kaloogian at 21% -- you didn't just make that up, did you?

I agree, in select states. Washington, California and Illinois are three good candidates where we have series down-ballot races that need a strong BushCheney presence.

Washington: Bush-Rossi-Nethercutt-Reichert
California: Bush-Jones
Illinois: Bush-JACKRyan

Of course we have to cover the basics first, Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesnowta.

California would be the biggest prize of them all. If Bush forced Kerry to do spending in big markets, that will be a drain he doesn't need. A Bush-Arnold-Jones push should be good enough to do that.

Washington, it can be done. Honestly, Washington is actually one of those states we can push over the top if we're strong enough. Even so, if Kerry has to fight for Washington, that's a big drain.

Illinois, I dunno. I think Jack Ryan will do far better than anyone would have thought a Republican could do in this state, his last name not withstanding. I think it's too early to tell whether or not it will be trouble for Kerry financially.

The Dems are going to have a fight keeping Oregon in their camp, ditto New Mexico, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The fact that Bush can put the screws to them in the most vote-rich state they've got will not help at all, especially if the Breck Girl gets a bit of a second wind and Kerry has to fight him off also. In other words, money will dry up for these states.

Bottom Line: Bush has money right now, and Kerry is exhausting his on a continuing fight for the nomination. Bush will start the fall campaign with a distinct money advantage and Kerry might not have the dough left to spread around to win some key states.

Illinois, I dunno.

I'm guessing here, but I'd figure that money spent advertising in the Chicago (probably) and St. Louis/E.St.L. (definitely) markets would have interstate benefits in Missouri and Wisconsin, maybe even Minnesnowta and Michigan?

Money spent on the ground is another thing.

Some of this involves Bush spending some campaign money, but I'm thinking that strategic visits would draw crowds and get him plenty of free media coverage simply because he's the president. If they're done in the right place, that alone could screw Kerry up.

Jack Ryan? Well, that could be a good thing, particularly if he includes the first name.

Still up for grabs and Jones can't get out of the mid-30s. Of course the safe bet is still Jones. But we can do better.

Let's see what happens after this weekend's GOP convention in Burlingame.
