While California Republicans say they're optimistic about knocking off two-term Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, campaign finance reports released Tuesday show the winner of the GOP primary faces a major fund-raising disadvantage.

Even Rosario Marin, the Republican who's raised the most money, has collected just less than 10 percent of the $9.6 million Boxer has raised so far, according to the latest campaign finance reports.

We have the same problem here in Maryland with Babs Mikulski. Incumbents are hard to get rid of when they are sitting on million dollar war chests.

Jones is the best known, yet his fund raising is a joke, compared to Boxer.

The four Republicans added together, fall well short of Boxer's total.

There are Republican sources, but it appears they aren't impressed by any of the four.

Just what gives?

To say that Boxer has a financial edge when her war chest is four times greater than all Republican candidates combined is at best a serious misunderstanding of the facts.

I can't understand why we can't at least field a candidate who is as strong against Boxer as we did in 1998. She won, of course, but it looks like this race is not going to be as close as that one was. What gives? She's a fool.
