MOSCOW, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Russia's State Duma is expected Wednesday to reject a proposal to extend President Vladimir Putin's term of office from four years to seven.

Boris Gryzlov, speaker of the Duma, the main chamber of the Russian parliament, told Channel One TV in Moscow Tuesday his One Russia party would not allow the proposal to be approved.

Channel One TV, monitored by the BBC, said the Duma was expected to reject the proposal during a Wednesday plenary session.

"The One Russia faction will not approve amendments to the constitution," Gryzlov said. "... The committees that deal with these issues suggest that the bill be rejected. One Russia has also voiced its stance. We will vote down this bill."

Putin is running for re-election to a second four year term March 14 and is expected to win by a landslide with about 70 percent of the vote.

No problem. Putin can get the Mayor of San Francisco to overrule the Duma.

That is a good thing. Even the great Heraclius of Byzantium was ruined by staying in power too long.Putin is good for Russia and he will be better to Russia if his term is limited. Limited power is good for all powerful people.
