At least that is what a new book published in Syria says. According to the book, written b y a top PLO member, Arafats father Arrived to Jerusalem from a village in Morocco populated mostly by Jews. The author claims that a cousin of Arafat confirmed that Arafat changed his last name trying to hide his Jewish Moroccan roots.
The author also writes what has been known for a long time that Arafat was born in Cairo not in Jerusalem. Arafats father was married to an Arab woman from Jerusalem but Arafat was not born there. Another thing the book says is that Arafat is not related, as he claims, to the infamous/ famous Husseini family from Jerusalem. As for being from Moroccan origin the book quotes Moroccos former Foreign Affairs minister that as far as he knows Arafat is from that Moroccan village. (all of the above freely translated from Israeli news siteYnet)
The readers of Ynet had some funny conclusions: If Arafat is a Jew it will explain many things. For example it explains why Arafat refused to accept Barak and Clinton plan to give land to the Palestinians. It would also explain why he leads the Palestinians to chaos. Why he encourages suicide bombings that causes more and more people to loathe the Palestinians. Another thing: If Arafat is a Jew and he lives in the West Bank, does that make him a settler?

I pass this on without further comment, except to say that I found this in a reference on Roger Simon's blog. He's very skeptical as well.

Well, if it's published in Syria, it's got to be true.
Yet more irrefutable proof that it's all the Jews' fault.

What's insane here is that the Palestinians are stupid enough to follow this jerk. They could have had a nation by now and peace as well.
93% of Saudi Arabia is empty.

Could be true. Adolph Hitler had Jewish roots. I think his Holocost was a form of self hatred.

I hope this ends up all over the Arab press.
It's not true, but it's a brilliant piece of propaganda!

It really doesn't mater whether it's true.
Either way, Arafat is Arafat, and many Palis follow him. Nothing is going to change that.

Just another example of the world wide jewish conspiracy.
If Arafat is part of it then who knows who else is secretly involved!
Those clever jews, blowing themselves up, where will it stop!?

I've always wondered if Arafat was some type of secret Christian. His wife is of a Christian background. He has attended Christmas mass in Bethlehem for years which is something no moslem would do (recognize another religion).
To: Dialup Llama
There is nothing in Arafat's life or behavior to suggest that he worships anything but himself, with the possible exception of his late mentor and Nazi ally Grand Mufti Hajj Amin al-Husseini.

A ploy by some faction to get rid of Arafat.

Arafat's very similar to Saddam Hussein in that he's a secular leader of an ethnic group with a strong religious component.

How's your newspaper Hebrew? The Israeli Guy website has a link to the YNET website (which, as you probably know, is in Hebrew). Is there more information there? Does it give his supposed Moroccan name?

Actually Yasser Arafat is Japanese. His mother had an affair with Godzilla.

Could be true. Adolph Hitler had Jewish roots. This proposition is indeterminate at best. More info here.

Alan King (as Rabbi Lembeck) appeared in what great movie that Roger Simon wrote the screen play for?
