I don't know if Thompson has his kerry's right. His article is based on a verbal conversation. Senator Bob Kerrey was in VN at the same time as John Kerry. Bob Kerrey had admitted publicly that he had killed civilians when he was in VN. Unless Thompson can clear up which Kerry or Kerrey Adm. Z was referring to, this may be a non-story.

Do a search on google.com for kerry and zumwalt and you'll find numerous references to them (Zumwalt and John Kerry) being in meetings together. I saw one that said Zumwalt wanted to get Kerry the Navy Cross but settled on the Silver Star. It was all an attempt to lift morale of the troops.

Bob Kerrey and Lt. John Kerry were both in VN at the same time, I would think that Adm. Zumwalt would know the difference between one man missing a leg and up for the CMH and another up for a Silver Star.
Interestingly enough, Kerrey spilled the beans without provocation that he killed civilians in VN in April, 2001 - a secret that he kept since '69.
