Jeff Gardner is deep in the heart of a seismological amusement park and the only thing shaking is his 12-year-old Suburban.

Gardner, 39, is an off-road tour guide whose typical route bounces directly on top of the San Andreas Fault north of Interstate 10 in the Coachella Valley.

The predictions have been pretty vague so far, with an excellent chance of being correct by "dumb luck."

Because large earthquakes are simply small earthquakes that get out of hand, I strongly believe there will NEVER be earthquake predictions specific enough for evacuations, etc.

The name of the game is earthquake HAZARD assessment.

IIRC, there's one city-buster earthquake (6.5+) a year in CA...

They just usually happen out in the middle of nowhere, just scaring the rabbits, instead of in downtown SF or LA.

I predict a big one in Florida around November 2004. Somewhere near Palm Beach or Miami. It could shake up areas hundreds of miles away.

Maybe God will give His opinion on this gay marriage flap in San Francisco.

Maybe God will give His opinion on this gay marriage flap in San Francisco.

Trenching studies show a history of large earthquakes in the San Francisco area going back over 10,000 years. Was the scattering of Indians living there Gay?

Actually, in the last 60 years or so, large quake activity in the SF and LA areas has been BELOW what is believed to be the long-term average. This corresponds to SF becoming a center for Gay culture, and LA becoming the center of the American porn industry.

So, if you think some deity doles out earthquakes as warnings or punishments, one has to conclude God loves gays and porn.

Not counting the quake in San Simeon, the last earthquake greater than a 6 in CA was the Hector Mine quake in 1999. Before that was Northridge in 1994 and before that, Landers in 1992.

So I think we've had our fair share of quakes in So Cal. Last time Northern CA had a major one was Loma Prieta in 1989. (No offense, Northern CA).

"Interesting, no ?"

Yes...we'll just have to wait and see how accurate it is.

Yep - after I read that in yesterday's Desert Sun, I walked out and looked north to the Little San Bernardino Mountains - where the fault runs.

Sometimes that 15 miles looks far away....sometimes it looks pretty damn close.

(P.S. - assume, then, you saw the Gay-thing-Palm Springs article?)

California is on the Pacific Rim. If you follow the earthquakes lately around the world, you will find a lot of them are on the Pacific Rim.

I got an email the other day saying there had been a 4.4 just 23 miles SSW of Bakersfield.

This is not encouraging to me!

From Poohbah

They just usually happen out in the middle of nowhere, just scaring the rabbits, instead of in downtown SF or LA.

And this is suppose to be between Barstow and Mexico, which is very sparsely populated and they get shake , rattle and roll all the time since the Landers and Hector mine quakes.

I felt the Hector Mine event real good when I was up in the High Desert.

I am sure the local Media will publicize this prediction to the mases very well! They love to talk about the earthquakes that happened or the ones that might happen!
