You didn't see Bush's appearance. It was beautiful. It absolutely framed the arguments for the next couple months and rendered the whole Guard AWOL argument moot. And before you say no one saw it, the whole thing was carried live on Fox and CNN.

How many people do you think are watching Fox and CNN during a work day? Not many. So the only impression the vast majority of people will get from this speech is from the press. And what do you think they are going to with it? Bring up the "Bush was AWOL" stuff and give the impression that Bush is trying to "overcome" a negative.
