Canadian Hockey Host in Trouble Over 'Racist' Jibe

OTTAWA (Reuters) - The combative co-host of a popular Canadian ice hockey TV show found himself in hot water on Friday after suggesting that players from French-speaking Quebec were cowards for wearing protective visors.
Although Don Cherry has made disparaging remarks about French Canadians before, his comments on CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada" that "most of the guys that wear (visors) are European or French guys" show sparked widespread unhappiness.
Canada's official languages commissioner has launched a probe into the comments, which federal minister Denis Coderre said were outrageous.
"I find it despicable, I am hurt. People have got to stop continually resorting to these kinds of stereotypes," said Coderre, who is from Quebec.

Grapes has always been the character. He coached the Big Bad Bruins back in the 70's when it was common for a game to have at least 3-4 fights a night, bench clearing brawls and a whole host of other shenanigans sandwiched around a game.
