In our area yes. It is so obvious. Usaully not spanish looking but more short aztec Indian look.

Body language and actions say alot about someone.

American Mexicans mingle freely amongst others in daily community living.

A group of men living in a boat storage shed looking around constantly to me means they are up to something.

A old van coming into town with white painted out windows filled to the brim with migrant workers may or may not be illegal.

I can go to the jail roster and it tells you exactly who is being held for the INS and in small town such as mine we "all talk and compare notes"

Could I spot illegals in your town? Nope. Nor could I tell who the town butt heads are.

Let me tell you something, you do not have a clue what you are talking about. Even in your area you haven't a clue.

"our government can track a cow"

Remenber that it has been PRIVATE INDUSTRY that developed a tracking system. Famer types understand that disease wrecks heards quickly. Since 9/11 and a mad cow bio terror scare, the GOVERNMENT has had a say in its role as US Agricuture. But there is quite a difference between Iowa and DC. One understands a problem and fixes it, the other...well you get the point.

Thanks. *blushes*

Re: Illegal immigration. I keep hearing it's impossible to stop, but it seems like something that's only gotten this far out of control fairly recently. So, my questions are: What were we doing before that worked so much better? And, why aren't we doing it now?

I've read a number of proposals on these threads on how to solve the problem, but I don't ever remember it being such a problem (at least not of this magnitude) in our more distant past. So, I have to conclude that at one time there was a much more effective solution, but we've abandoned it. So, why don't we reinstate some of the older methods? They did work. They must have worked, because 25 years ago I did not need to be bilingual to order a cheeseburger.
