You, sir, are either a fool, a knave, or willfully ignorant of what is going on here

I am none of the above. And "what is going on here" is actually a poor attempt to negate Bush's success in Afghanistan and Iraq by trying to associate his behavior in the ANG with his role as CIC. It won't work but it makes no point to revisit what is, politically, ancient history.

Kerry's record has been consistent, as his military and police records, writings and testimonies, personal actions and voting records will show. He has always been a left-wing sychophant, supporting the enemies of America -except when he joined the Navy so he could bolster his credentials for a future office.

Precisely. So argue his record in office which is relevant to his public performance instead of dredging up things that happened so long ago that abortion was illegal. A lot of good people were against the Vietnam War, moderated their views over time and probably now wish they could take back some of the things they said. I don't think Kerry is one of them but there's so much that is far more recent and relevant to 2004 than what he said or did in 1970.

Or would you rather still treat G W Bush as a drunk driver over one arrest in 1975?

I'm all in favor of trashing John Kerry but I'd rather it be over something he's said or done since he became Senator. I think there is plenty to bash him with over that period alone.

BTW, I was born in 1957. Although the war was over by the time I turned 18 (I had a high draft number), I think I have an adequate idea of the issues and passions on both sides of the debate. Since America has normalized relations with the Communist nation of Vietnam (a mistake, IMO), the least we can do as a nation is bury the old divisions from 30 years ago.

I really have no problem with most of your arguments. But it is the Democrats who insist on dredging up the past to smear, run and demand no more be said.

What Kerry did then is precisely relevant to what he is doing today as he has not changed. There is plenty to look at in his record as a Senator, but that is not the point. He is insisting he can have it both ways; his status as a "war hero" (questionable, IMHO) and a pass on his very revealing actions and words after he left Vietnam. He can't have it both ways. My problem with your statement is you appear to be willing to let him have it that way, at least what he did 30 years ago, and which he has neither repented nor renounced. Nay, he instead touts it as "patriotic". I say, "bullshiite!", and so should you if you really feel as your words indicate. It is emblematic of his character and continuing views.

GWB may have gotten drunk and driven someplace, but he has long past given that up. Kerry hasn't given up what he did and is still doing - stabbing America in her back. He needs to be exposed on ALL fronts.
