BEIJING, China (AP) -- A man convicted of 67 murders was executed Saturday after what Chinese media said might be the country's longest, deadliest killing spree in modern history.
Yang Xinhua, 38, was put to death in Luohe, the city where he was convicted February 1 in the central province of Henan, state television and the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Whatever you think about the Chinese, they're admirable in the way they swiftly dispatch cold-blooded killers. And no murderer-loving crowd or Nine Circus there to gum up the works.

Well, I think there should be a middle ground between China's approach and the endless appeals we have here.

Little is known about his motives, but earlier reports said Yang had been dumped by his girlfriend and "desperately wanted to retaliate against society."
News reports described Yang as mentally unbalanced, saying he would begin rambling and shouting after a few seconds of conversation.
"I'M TELLING YOU WE NEED TO CUT TAXES, STOP IMMIGRATION, CLOSE THE BORDERS, AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE THREATS TO OUR NATIONAL.....BANG!"

Good move, considering they got the right guy. But you know, in totalitarian societies, it's just as easy to get the wrong guy, and no one's the wiser.

According to a Chinese friend; if you're found guilty of a capital crime you get one appeal within one month. They schedule several on the same date. For those whose appeal is denied they are immediately led out one door while the innocent (if they find any) are led out another.
Once all the prisoners are sentenced, the condemned men are driven by truck to a military facility where they shoot them one at a time. He says they shoot them through the heart since they say that's more humane.
Then they bill the family for the bullet.

Good idea. Think of the money we'd save if we could bill the families of the killers for the costs of carrying out their sentence. What a nice dent in crime that would make.

I've always been partial to banishment from civilization.
Basically drop the bastards - naked - onto one of the Aleutian islands.

This is really going to p**s off Fidel Castro! He has held the record for the shortest time between conviction and execution for almost a year. He was severely criticized by some of his very close buddies, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran and some African dictatorships, for wasting the time and effort of the "conviction" aspect, but, international records are worth it.
Now, China drops the time to about an hour. That is going to be tough to beat!!
I especially like the part about "mentally unbalanced." Here, that's a slam dunk ticket to 25 years of appeal. Add a hang nail or an unappreciated childhood, and you got three hots and a cot for life.

One hour? That must have included the appeals.

Justice hastened to the point of error is also justice denied.

Somehow I think PETA would approve. Humans have no right to be made safe from Mother Nature and there are humans less deserving of safety and civilization than the innocent and their murderers come to mind in that respect as the perfect candidates for exile to the back neck of the woods far away from the habitations of man.

| Justice delayed is justice denied. |
But justice WOULDN'T be delayed.
It would just be a bit more excruciating.

Of course it's also a totalitarian society, so no matter what its haste it "can do nothing wrong." Keep in mind these are the ones who make it to a trial. I wonder how many get capped right on the street.

Of course it's also a totalitarian society, Ehh that's OK.. they make a mean DVD player that's dirt cheap.
To: mhking
I hope they got the right guy.
