most of my research was from talking to people in Kenya (where I've lived all my life) -- and these folks are very reputable. Economists, political analysts and respectable members of the expat community. Google searches will undoubtedly tell you more about Nicholas Biwott and Naushad Merali. As for the Schwartzman's -- they've kept a lower profile.

But the name has appeared in the British press this morning. This from the Daily Telegraph:

Adrian Blomfield in Nairobi, writes: The woman believed to be the person referred to by the Drudge Report was in hiding at a friend's house in Kenya yesterday, along with a male American friend.

She is believed to have been in the country for at least a week and has declined to comment on the matter.

Until last year she worked for the Associated Press. As tabloid reporters began arriving in Nairobi, she and her friend were moved to an undisclosed location.

The woman's host, Hannah Schwartzman said: "I don't understand all this, but they're no longer here."

These eyewitness accounts are always difficult to deal with in FR because the format simply isn't designed to accommodate them. I have had similar experiences in past years trying to figure out how to report some of the goings on at the CIA safe house down the street. Then, if you remember Wiriandonata and Gilbert Colon ~ associates of Charlie Trie, Bill Clinton, etc., ~ they lived down the street before they fled the country just footsteps ahead of the FBI. I do recall Wiriandonata's professional Mah Jhong parties which were left untouched by the Fairfax cops, then, and still, in thrall to a totally corrupt Democratic party majority on the county Board of Supervisors.

This stuff just can't be handled here.
