Preferably he will get his day in court-martial.
Seriously, while hanging is no longer an option the death penalty is still available in the UCMJ.
This little filth betrayed us, he betrayed our country, he betrayed his brothers in arms.
Every breath he takes is air pollution.
They are willing to experiment with tax systems - not such a great system at the moment (but hey, look at ours!).
Also, it's a country our size with only 1/10 the population.
If you live there, you pretyy much live within 5 miles of an ocean, which is nice.
Because Johnny Jihad was actually bearing arms against Americans, seems to me he deserved the death penalty as much as McVeigh (instead of 20 years).
I understand he plead the case, offering substantial intel info to the government -- wonder if he's actually delivered anything substantive ??
Anybody heard any update reports how he's actually doing in prison ??
As for Johnny Jihad, he should have had a dirt nap quite a while ago. I seem to remember some post that said he is not favored by other prisoners, but I have no link.
In the context of the story, this Muslim kid wants the freedom to live under Shari'a law apparently, and he wants the freedom to practice the forcible conversion of others to Islam, as his faith dictates. So freedom for him is bad for everyone else. He needs to be isolated or converted, as all who would practice Islam as it's written.
As far as your point about living in another time, I have often thought about what it would be like to live in the early 1800's, in say, Virginia or the Carolinas, or the West in the 1880's. Pretty much wide open freedom, but a hard life, and risky, nonetheless. But I get your point.
Hmmm. Now, that is something to ponder.
No, it's because bad guys aren't punished in a timely fashion...if at all.
Too much time lapses between the offense and the meted sentence. Especially capital crimes.
The thing I noticed about that whole Seattle-to-Olympia area is the striking lack of churches. Being from the South, it was pretty noticeable. Not surprising that the influence of goofy religions and general anti-Americanism run rampant around there. (Evergreen is near there, yes.)
As an outsider I see nopardons as not wanting to converse. Over and over he has stated this desire, but you guys keep poking him with the cattle prod.
It was his right to go and live somewhere else "in freedom" if he wanted to. But with his attempting to give aid to those who have declared war on us, and have sworn to kill Americans, he's committed treason, and deserves the death penalty. But he won't get it, just like Taliban Johnny didn't get it... Even though he was captured in a war zone!
Nope, since Congress didn't actually declare war, we're not legally at war. So he'll get off.
For attempting to put the lives of those he's serving with at risk, he's deserving of a firing squad.
Mark
Yeah, the conversation took a turn I did not anticipate- I am sorry about that.
But you hit on what I had been commenting upon. Freedom has become a variable commodity in this day and age. It means radically different things depending on who you're talking to. To the Taliban, freedom means freedom to practice Sharia. To others, it might mean a tax haven. Depending on what your view of freedom is- the US is either the country with the most liberty in the world or the Great Satan.
In my own view- the US is the nation in the world where people enjoy the most freedom- across the board. There are some areas where the US is more draconian but in just about any category that really matters, you're bound to experience more freedom in the US- generally speaking- than anywhere else. This is not in dispute. Not by me and not by anyone who takes liberty seriously. Were the US to collapse suddenly, that would be the end of freedom for the individual in the world. It wouldn't happen overnight- but without the US to safeguard freedom, all is lost.
Many other nations enjoy a great deal of freedom- not so much because the US is there to protect it- but because the US is there as an example. Without that example, other nations have nothing to aspire to.
That's the way I feel about it.
How do YOU feel about that ??
I don't much care for it.
Not really. I have two beautiful sons 34 and 32 yrs old. The oldest one became a Muslim serving the Army in Germany and fought in the Gulf War. We were surprised, and thought; no, hoped that it was a temporary brain fart. His circle of influence in the army was primarily African-American Muslims. Remember, this was Pre-9/11...back in 1990. Today, he is a devote Muslim and went to Haj in 2002.
The younger one converted in the Fall of 2001 and returned from Haj last week. He married Muslim. He is a gentle spirit.
To be honest, they didn't take America's side when the towers fell. It caused some problems since they were working as partners in my business. For example, they refused to let me put up the Flag on the office window or door. So, you can say, I got a taste of living in an environment where you aren't the majority.
We know better than to discuss politics. They don't vote anyway, so I knock wood that the Liberals are losing 2 potential votes.
I guess what I am trying to say is that they too grew up in a blue-collar city...450 miles away from me. Their mother kept them in line and they never brought the police home. Their babysitter was Nurse Cratchett and a strict Baptist..which probably accounts for their back turning on Western Christianity.
There seem to be places where men are free to enslave and kill women at there pleasure.
Why would women want to be killed at there [sic] pleasure ??
That doesn't sound like freedom to me ??
