Yesterday on C-SPAN's live coverage of the Senate, Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) verbally attacked Ann by name, reading from her book and from a Cleland book. Reed made a weak defense of Clelend.

True, the thing I don't like about Cleland is whenever anyone questioned his voting record he'd fall back on his injuries and rail against "attacks on his patriotism."

But when someone uses his injuries as a spring board into politics, never making it clear that it was an unfortunate accident, leaving the impression that it was enemy action...that is grounds for criticism. I served 19 months in Viet Nam...I was an artillery forward observer, an air observer, a fire support officer for a LRRP company during the Tet Offensive (had three helicopters shot out from under me), and received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. But, I have never used those experiences to promote myself unfairly...I have never faked my credentials for personal gain. Cleland, on the other hand, has left the impression that he is some kind of a war hero - and got elected on the strength of that deception. For that, he should be held accountable!

A lot of people have been injured doing stupid things. Some people were in the military when it happened.
How many of them carefully edited what happened and used the new version to run for congress as a "War Hero"?
Waving his stumps at people deliberately kept ignorant of how they became stumps, to guilt them into silence as way to counter reasoned argument, is not the act of a hero.

It's a carefully crafted lie.

We all make stupid mistakes - but I clearly remember Cleland being touted by the Dems as a war hero, not someone drinking beer who stopped to pick up a grenade.

Bull. He was injured because he was playing with a gernade he knew he shouldn't have been. I would not have played with the gernade, and yes I've had the opportunity to play with gernades. I guess since I'm not a liberal, I'm not stupid enough to do that.
