Neither post should be frozen or removed. But there should only be one thread in BREAKING NEWS. Mods choice should be to move yours or the other thread to breaking news. Its up to them.

The first post should be retitled with the breaking news as a live thread.

It seems that Robinson needs to speak with todays mod.
I will inform him of such. I also had this thread pulled of front page news.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1076732/posts Dean calling Kerry Corrupt and proving it.
My suggestion is we go the head of the Freerepublic
command, and let him hear about it and reply.

In the true spirit of a conservative news forum, I think we should stick to fixing people's computer problems, captioning photos, and discussing the relative merits of posting breaking news stories.

I agree with your assessment. I was just about to leave for work when I noticed the original thread. I also noticed 400+ messages, the first 50 of which were nonsense. I was actually wishing someone would do what you had done; i.e., post the actual story. Instead, I took the time to go to Drudge.

Replace the old thread with the new in breaking news and add links to point to the other from each thread.

Here's what I think should happen. Just my opinion...
I think that the ability to post something directly in Breaking News sidebar should be taken away. We should then post our articles, just as always. Then the moderators can "upgrade" articles to the Breaking News sidebar as they see fit.
This should end all the squabbling and all the "hurt" feelings about having one's post downgraded in status.
Also, during a genuine breaking story, the moderator should not have to choose the very first thread posted on that sujbect. The moderator may choose the thread with the most details to be the thread to represent the breaking news story on the sidebar.
Thus, a breaking news thread that is linked to a genuine article might be chosen over a "DRUDGE FLASH - NOTHING FOLLOWS" type thread that was posted 10 minutes prior.
