The honeymoon is over, Mr. Bush (Boston Globe hurling alert!)
The Boston Globe (wholly owned lap dog, er, subsidiary of the NYTimes) ^ | 2/11/04 | Robert Kuttner

LAST WEEK I suggested that President Bush had reached a tipping point in his credibility with the broad public and the press. I speculated that we would soon see newsmagazine covers depicting Bush in trouble. Well, Time magazine obliged. Its new cover depicts a two-faced Bush and asks: "Does Bush Have a Credibility Gap?"

Where to start? One wonders if this guy walks around with a drool cup permanently positioned under his foaming mouth.

This takes the cake: Finally, Bush has had the advantage of a closely allied right-wing press, ranging from Fox News to The Wall Street Journal's editorialists, the Washington Times, The Weekly Standard, and the talk radio ditto-heads. There is no comparable propaganda machine among his critics.

I almost choked on my english muffin!! He lists four conservative outlets. What about ALL the others? What does he think he and his masters at the Globe are? FAIR?!?!? Unbiased?!?!?

The press often behaves as if "fairness" dictated not drawing conclusions in a news story. But if the president insists that black is white, pointing out the lie is not opinion journalism; it's reporting fact.

I wonder when the Kerry facts will come out........

Robert Kuttner is known to have a picture of Eugene Debs over his bedroom.

I believe they misspelled the author's last name. The third letter should be an "n" instead of a "t."

Under firm but respectful questioning, Bush wilted. He couldn't explain his constantly shifting rationale for war with Iraq

Bush was ineffective here. The media has re-defined Bush's rationale for war. Bush's hasn't shifted his rationale from day 1, but Bush has failed to go back to the case for war he originally made. Instead Bush stupidly has fallen into the trap of defending the lack of WMD. This is why Bush is getting beaten up.

Yes, that's the trouble. Kuttner and his ilk truly believe that the Globe, NYT, ABCNNBCBS, Time, and 90% of the "mainstream media" are moderate, mainstream, and fair and balanced, instead of Democrat-dominated water carriers for the Left. They honestly believe, as someone has said, that there are two types of opinion, "mainstream" and "right-wing". Every word they write and say is colored by this worldview.
