Don't be an ass, perception is reality and Bush needs something to energize his base, like maybe supporting HR25.

You'd be surprised at exactly WHO is energizing the base- its liberals and their attacks. Rush took calls from pissed off folks who were wavering in their support for Bush, but the latest round of Dem attacks on Bush, accompanied by a willing media, only served to stir the hornets nest of support FOR BUSH.

In speaking with people here at work, they are fed up with the Democrats and their attacks and know that our country will still be a whole lot better off with Bush than with the idiot, stand-for-nothing-against-everything liberals.

If the inevitable renaissance of Iraq happens on Kerry's watch, and the economy truly picks up steam in the first few years before the business cycle and Kerry's tax hikes kick in?

This is a persuasive angle to me. Bush has taken huge political risks to set these things in motion. It would be sickening to see Kerry get the credit when they pay off.

But Bush is doing what he said he'd do — as the prescription drug benefit for Medicare law proves.

Those who care about America's future don't dismiss the significant accomplishments of this President as if they were well within reach of just any man and then claim to be betrayed beyond reason.

So what? He has asked every illegal in the world to come in and take over American jobs. He will propose Congress to eventually give citizenship to millions upon millions of illegals. If you are incapable of looking just two years down the road, and I believe you are, just what will America be when these illegals are given the vote and can vote their own people into office? What will America be when Mexico votes our national treasury to themselves?

What do you think is going to happen to the Republican party then? What do you think is going to happen to Bush's accomplishments then? Or do you even think beyond party lines?

What you chose to do about that is your business; but I wish you all would stop trying to make US feel bad about the decisions we've made by making statements just like the one you made abov.

Then don't insult my intelligence when I tell people specific actions Bush is taking to hurt America. Sure Bush is our candidate. Does that mean people who speak the truth should be censored and ignored? Obviously so.

Why would I be surprised that you feel like YOU can tell ME how to vote -- after all, you're casting your vote for a man who has said on more than one occasion he doesn't WANT you to vote for him.

Try not to be so condescending of the rest of us while you throw your principled vote to a man who doesn't want it.

LOL! As though this constant wave of shrill articles telling us to vote for Bush "or else you'll be sorry..." are any less condescending.

I just find it amusing that you're so worried that you'll be compelled to vote for whomever I tell you to vote for in the first place. *ooooo, I'm hypnotizing you....wooogawoooga boo*

Give me all your money. I order you.

I consider myself an American who is sick to death of voting for people who say one thing and do another.

I agree with you on this, and it is primarily why I am so skeptical of the Demodogs.

I would be interested in knowing exactly what things President Bush stated during the 2000 campaign that fits this beef of yours, though. I found myself NOT supporting his nomination due to the stance he had on several issues. I supported him in the general election despite those disagreements, but I've not found anything he has done to be inconsistent with what he said he would do.

My school teacher friends in Florida and Virginia who have never been anything except diehard liberals say the very same thing.

We NEVER talk politics, but they all happened to be here during the SOTU; I was listening, not forcing them, but they started talking among themselves: and yes, they DO think they're better off now than they were with Clinton.

And they like that George Bush is protecting this country.

glad you asked. Here's a good start. Also liked the bit not mentioned but attempted about getting rid of the NEA and the Dept of Ed.

REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA As Republican Members of the House of Representatives and as citizens seeking to join that body we propose not just to change its policies, but even more important, to restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives. That is why, in this era of official evasion and posturing, we offer instead a detailed agenda for national renewal, a written commitment with no fine print.

This year's election offers the chance, after four decades of one-party control, to bring to the House a new majority that will transform the way Congress works. That historic change would be the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money. It can be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family.

Like Lincoln, our first Republican president, we intend to act "with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right." To restore accountability to Congress. To end its cycle of scandal and disgrace. To make us all proud again of the way free people govern themselves.

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting. Thereafter, within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress, we shall bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny.

1. THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: A balanced budget/tax limitation amendment and a legislative line-item veto to restore fiscal responsibility to an out- of-control Congress, requiring them to live under the same budget constraints as families and businesses. (Bill Text) (Description)

2. THE TAKING BACK OUR STREETS ACT: An anti-crime package including stronger truth-in- sentencing, "good faith" exclusionary rule exemptions, effective death penalty provisions, and cuts in social spending from this summer's "crime" bill to fund prison construction and additional law enforcement to keep people secure in their neighborhoods and kids safe in their schools. (Bill Text) (Description)

3. THE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: Discourage illegitimacy and teen pregnancy by prohibiting welfare to minor mothers and denying increased AFDC for additional children while on welfare, cut spending for welfare programs, and enact a tough two-years-and-out provision with work requirements to promote individual responsibility. (Bill Text) (Description)

4. THE FAMILY REINFORCEMENT ACT: Child support enforcement, tax incentives for adoption, strengthening rights of parents in their children's education, stronger child pornography laws, and an elderly dependent care tax credit to reinforce the central role of families in American society. (Bill Text) (Description)

5. THE AMERICAN DREAM RESTORATION ACT: A S500 per child tax credit, begin repeal of the marriage tax penalty, and creation of American Dream Savings Accounts to provide middle class tax relief. (Bill Text) (Description)

6. THE NATIONAL SECURITY RESTORATION ACT: No U.S. troops under U.N. command and restoration of the essential parts of our national security funding to strengthen our national defense and maintain our credibility around the world. (Bill Text) (Description)

7. THE SENIOR CITIZENS FAIRNESS ACT: Raise the Social Security earnings limit which currently forces seniors out of the work force, repeal the 1993 tax hikes on Social Security benefits and provide tax incentives for private long-term care insurance to let Older Americans keep more of what they have earned over the years. (Bill Text) (Description)

8. THE JOB CREATION AND WAGE ENHANCEMENT ACT: Small business incentives, capital gains cut and indexation, neutral cost recovery, risk assessment/cost-benefit analysis, strengthening the Regulatory Flexibility Act and unfunded mandate reform to create jobs and raise worker wages. (Bill Text) (Description)

9. THE COMMON SENSE LEGAL REFORM ACT: "Loser pays" laws, reasonable limits on punitive damages and reform of product liability laws to stem the endless tide of litigation. (Bill Text) (Description)

10. THE CITIZEN LEGISLATURE ACT: A first-ever vote on term limits to replace career politicians with citizen legislators. (Description)

Further, we will instruct the House Budget Committee to report to the floor and we will work to enact additional budget savings, beyond the budget cuts specifically included in the legislation described above, to ensure that the Federal budget deficit will be less than it would have been without the enactment of these bills.

Respecting the judgment of our fellow citizens as we seek their mandate for reform, we hereby pledge our names to this Contract with America.

Much better to throw the whole country to the dogs (or to the Dems, which is worse) just to prove a point.

It's better than claiming to fight a war on terrorism, while allowing the terrorist to waltz across the boarder all day.
Did anybody else hear the Mexicans screaming Osama on t.v.?
No offense but lunatics don't just come from the middle east. They come from everywhere. Hard to protect against, while inviting them in. Our military is doing a great job overseas. Rumsfield, and team are to be applauded.
G.W. is however doing poorly looking after us in the U.S.
They are fighting to keep them there, while Bush is doing everything possible to escort them in.
It only took 9 of theirs to kill 3000 of ours. Not in Iraq.
Right in our our back yard.
What in the world is he thinking about?

If you consider the hyperbole and near-lies I have seen you post about Bush's immigration policy to be the truth, maybe you shouldn't wonder why you feel ignored.

As usual, you ALL believe that you and ONLY you have the truth and principles.

......and of course the usual suspects arrive here to prove the author's point, pound their chests with their self-proclaimed "real conservatism" and show the rest of us that we just don't get it.

What a shame that their sick need to demand an intangible purity could drag our country to depths beyond Clintonism and put us at far worse risk from our enemies than we are now. And they think they are virtuous????????
