I've never understood this whole Conrad Black thing. All I know is that his papers were wonderful and a good representation of what the business was all about. Perhaps that's why the long knives have come out, perhaps he was just too dangerous.

Wow!

An unexcerpted Steyn column!

Re: the content, let me affirm that the quality of newspapers in Canada is in a spiralling decline since Conrad sold to the Aspers.

Go figure, eh?

Even when it's a subject not many folks are interested in, Steyn is still worth the read.

Mrs. L toils in an obscure backwater of Colonel McCormicks foundation, btw, so I appreciated the tidbit about hime.

Thanks for posting the whole think Pokey.

Regards,

L

Thanks for all the pings, but especially this one.
I've written on and off for Southam for more than 15 years.
What Mark says about Hollinger's acquisition and running of the company is bang on. He made the papers better.
But he was pilloried as a right wing fanatic, not surprisingly.
Now they don't even pay their freelance bills on time...
So we go elsewhere.

Cheers!
Jim
