An "inside baseball" column. Not very interesting.
But, it is the exception from Steyn.

I found it moving. It's a tribute to someone who's one of Mark's best friends, and definitely a major influence on him.
It's worth noting that Mark's career has been made by one man, Conrad Black. And it's even more worth noting that the only papers publishing his column are apparently Conrad's papers.
So we should be worried about Mark's future if Black goes down. It takes guts to publish Mark, and Conrad Black is one of the few people in the publishing biz with guts.
Mark might be out of a job if Conrad gets out of the publishing biz :-(.

I've never understood this whole Conrad Black thing. All I know is that his papers were wonderful and a good representation of what the business was all about. Perhaps that's why the long knives have come out, perhaps he was just too dangerous.

Wow!
An unexcerpted Steyn column!
Re: the content, let me affirm that the quality of newspapers in Canada is in a spiralling decline since Conrad sold to the Aspers.
Go figure, eh?

Even when it's a subject not many folks are interested in, Steyn is still worth the read.
Mrs. L toils in an obscure backwater of Colonel McCormicks foundation, btw, so I appreciated the tidbit about hime.
Thanks for posting the whole think Pokey.

L

A "thank you" bump, Pokey.
Even though I'm not familiar with the story, Steyn's style is as entertaining as always.

Very interesting to some - since this has not been covered in the American press. My favorite newspaper for 30 years was the Daily Telegraph, and second was the National Post when it started in Canada.
I had heard that Conrad Black was losing his newspaper empire, but not why or how. I am sad about that, and glad that Steyn wrote this positive column abut Black. Canada had a brief window of conservative opinion in print with the National Post. Sad, that it is gone.
