Crowd Jeers Eliminated U.S. Team With Chants of 'Osama!'

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) - The boos nearly drowned out "The Star-Spangled Banner," and a few dozen fans chanted "Osama! Osama!" as the United States was eliminated by Mexico in Olympic men's soccer qualifying. A loud anti-American crowd hollered as Mexico beat the United States 4-0 Tuesday night in the under-23 tournament, claiming a berth in the Athens Olympics.
As U.S. players left the stadium for their bus, several fans - some clutching beers - chanted "Osama! Osama!" in reference to al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
Police in riot gear held back the crowd and urged people to calm down.
"I think the fans here in Mexico are terrific; I think their patriotism and support of their team is terrific," U.S. coach Glenn Myernick said. "But unless I missed something, not one of them came down on the field and kicked the ball. We were beaten by a better football team tonight, not by the fans."
For Mexico, the game partly avenged a 2-0 loss to the United States in the second round of the 2002 World Cup, a far more important tournament involving national teams.
The U.S. men will miss the Olympics for the first time since 1980 - when the entire American delegation boycotted the Moscow Games. Mexico also ended the United States' 19-tournament streak of qualifying for every FIFA men's outdoor event, including the World Cup, the Olympics, the World Youth Championship for players under 20 and the Under-17 World Championship.
Mexico is unbeaten 20 consecutive Olympic qualifiers since a 3-0 loss to the United States on April 26, 1992.
While both national television networks broadcast Tuesday's game live in Mexico, there was no television in the United States, where the game was broadcast on closed circuit to about 190 restaurants.

Wow all this pandering sure is paying off
Legalize the illegals-- and the Mexicans hate us
federalize airport security -- now convicted felons work as screeners at a higher price than before.
Being nice to Ted Kennedy -- and was he nice back? no he said W lied about Iraq
And doing a new medicare program to the tune 520 billion --now liberals can attack republicans as big spenders.
I can only hope that if GWB gets another term he will wise up a little and realize that no matter what he does liberals will always hate him.
So forget the pandering, do what's right, and when they complain tell them to go to hell where they belong.

I know we're 'supposed' to be above retaliating against such absurd arrogance but where in the - to be said emphatically - hell do they get off praising the 'cowards.' I guess jealousy loves company...and there's alot to be jealous of - don't you think?

If GWB gets a second term, he won't have to 'politic' because there's no votes to get after the election.

Sounds like typical soccer fans. Ever notice how many riots are caused and deaths inflicted every year by these nuts?

Actually he didn't have to politic for THIS election because everything he's done has backfired miserably.
But be that as it may. Next term we will find out whether he is a conservative who has dropped his principles for political expediency's sake, or a hardcore RINO.

But they sure love American money. No one craves the US dollar more than those same people cheering for Osama.

Soccer is a sport for third world sewer nations. I am sick of hearing whining liberals complain about the US not embracing soccer. We like superior things. Soccer is an inferior sport. Just like Mexico has an inferior culture.
To: altair
It's soccer. The world refers to it as 'football.'

Amen, he cannot make our enemies love us. "If you are not with us, you are with the terrorists." That was my favorite president, wasn't it?

I agree, football should be an Olympic sport. Soccer is for 3rd world countries, and old world usetawases. You couldn't drag me to a game.

Maybe whe should offer them a big Boo when they run our borders.I can think of something more effective to give these people when they cross our borders. But if I mentioned it here, I'd be banned from FR.
