There appears to be direct sun on Kerry's face, but a softer light on Fonda's...and no evidence of direct sun in the background.

Look at the shadow the top half of the papers in "Kerry's" hand cast over the bottom half. That seems to make the light source to be to Kerry's left. Yet the sun is in Kerry's right eye
