Looks like the DNC will be spending more money here than they had anticipated.

This is the BEST NEWS I've heard since the capture of Saddam! May God bless those 54 men who helped make this into LAW.

Should a woman that was raped have to carry that scumbag's kid and deliver it to the world? Yes. She can give the child up for adoption.
The child doesn't deserve the death penalty for a crime that he didn't commit.
Besides, if the woman who has been raped aborts her child, she will have two occassions to grieve. The abortion will only compound her grief. And the grief will be more intense, since she will have been guilty of committing the crime (of abortion).

Thanks for the ping. I was wondering how long it would be before a state dared to question the federal government's immoral and unconstitutional mandate on this issue. Let's hope and pray this is only the beginning. Amen. We need to keep the 4D ultrasound images in front of these ghoulish judges. Maybe their dead consciences can be awakened. Regardless, it's time for us to go on the offensive, instead of always fighting a rearguard action.

"refused to implement . . . "
That is indeed the most direct way. We just need executives with some moral courage to fulfill their actual responsibilities, instead of pretending that their hands are 'tied by the courts.' It should be easier for them than the Congress which is, of course as you pointed out, supposed to limit the authority of the Supreme Court in certain areas. They just refuse to do it. They give the power over to the courts . . . It's more fun to spend other people's money and enact feel-good legislation than to really do their job!
The only hope on the moral courage end -- other than public outrage -- is the Republican primaries. That is the only hope I see.
BTW, are you an atty?

I just realized, they also need to have some rather SEVERE penalties in store for any violators of this law, to make SURE it never becomes a trial balloon before the Supremely Useless Court.
Punishments should inlcude, but not be limited to:
1. 5,000,000 years in prison, with no chance for parole until the first 1,000,000 years served...
2. Immediate suspension of the right to practice medicine for the rest of their lives...
3. Both eyes plucked out, tongue cut-off, both righ & left hands cut off, and forced sterilization....
But seriously, the more severe the penalities for violating this law, this least likely are you going to see any doctor with half a brain ever attempt to be found guilty of it...Can't send up to the supremes unless someone gets proscecuted...so make sure it really COSTS someone to get caught, no slap on the wrist penalities...

No. I just remember what I learned about the constitution in school, some 50 years ago, and a few things I've picked up since. I don't suppose they teach much about the constitution in schools these days.
Also I warmly recommend the discussion of judicial tyranny that appeared in First Things several years ago. It caused quite a tumult at the time. The title was "The End of Democracy: The Judicial Usurpation of Politics," with contributions from Robert Bork, Russell Hittinger, Hadley Arkes, Chuck Colson, and Robert P. George, plus the editors. There were a couple of follow-up articles as well.

I have heard the PBA procedure was not ever necessary to save the life of the mother, but I don't think there are too many doctors who claim abortion is never necessary to save the life of a mother. Pregancy is a dangerous thing and mothers do die, so I would be skeptical about that claim. What the prochoicers talk about is the health of the mother, i.e., I'm getting headaches - time to kill the kid.

Not only is the bill that passed overwhelmingly by the South Dakota House a huge step in the fight to protect the unborn in this country, since it recognizes that life begins at conception, it also places the abortion issue at the forefront for the special election to be held on June 1 for the remainder of Bill Janklow's seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, which pits pro-abortion liberal Democrat Stephanie Herseth against pro-life conservative Republican Larry Diedrich. Herseth was hoping that South Dakotans wouldn't notice how out of step she is with the rest of the state on issues such as abortion, so she must be "deeply saddened" to see this bill passed not just because she's pro-abortion, but because it will give Diedrich the opportunity to raise the issue more effectively. And don't forget about Little Tommy Daschle, who faces a tough challenge from former Congressman John Thune (who was robbed of his Senate victory in 2002). If abortion is an issue this November, Thune will send Daschle to the retirement home.

Has there ever been an an abortion performed to "save the life of the mother?" Probably for ectopic pregnancies. (and I'm sure there are cases for other medical reasons)

good political analysis on the SD GOP. I thought that sounds great; but what's the point. Sometimes you have to give the GOP credit where credit is due (attn perpetual Bush/GOP bashers)
