'Bush and I were lieutenants'
George Bush and I were lieutenants and pilots in the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS), Texas Air National Guard (ANG) from 1970 to 1971. We had the same flight and squadron commanders (Maj. William Harris and Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, both now deceased). While we were not part of the same social circle outside the base, we were in the same fraternity of fighter pilots, and proudly wore the same squadron patch.

Oh please, I concede your facts with great animation. Because while Carville is excellent at manipulating public debate and with sound and sight bites, the man has one major thing going against him: HE IS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF MORALITY!
I'd argue back that if it weren't for Carville the Dem party would have suffered WORSE!
Look at this year's campaign for crying out loud. Most of America had a ho-hum attitude about it. This November will be pro forma, so goes the sentiment. The Dems will go through the motions but the public will vote for Bush because, well we are at war, we were attacked on our own soil since the last election, and us idiots out here in la-la land are sticking with the guy in charge when it all happened. Hey, the Dems know this.
What surprises me, though it shouldn't, is how the Dems have managed to make this election actually appear like it might really be a contest. Come on, I listen to the radio talk shows, I read Free Republic, I read the American Spectator. There is a palpable concern out there that hey, the Dems might really do what on the surface would seem the impossible.
Look at their challenges! They are up against the President whose shocked face was broadcast across the air waves while 3,000 Americans were losing their lives to foreign attack. They have an opponent who has started two wars, both of which were heavily approved by the red states. They have a guy whose mostly likable as viewed by yon average yo-yo in la-la land. And yet, yet.....look at what a good job they are doing!
I'm not typing this because I am proud of this, mind you. The games the Dems are playing are downright dangerous, if not outright traitorous. But these guys are not going softly into that good night. Even at this early date they have managed to make it look like this might be a real election, not another McGovern fiasco.
If the Repubs had a clue....well I could tell them what to do. I was born a Democrat and knew how to rig a voting machine when I was eight. Been a Democrat up until five years ago when I got a clue, no thanks to the Repubs who simply don't know how to fight down and dirty.
As a political junkee I enjoy the national comedy that is the Dem primary. But like every other newborn conservative (and life long ones) I am concerned that the Dem shenanigans might endanger the security, even the existence, of my country.
Guys like Carville have no morals. The Ickes and Carvilles of the world don't care about right and wrong. No doubt they'd tell you up front that this isn't their job. It's up to the American public to dedeuce the right and wrong of it and so far, fingers crossed, they have, witness your examples of Dem failures.
But never underestimate the power of understanding how to spin and change opinion by careful and thoughtful sound and sight bites. Hollywood's been doing for decades.
And we all know whose side they're on.
I will.
But I'm going to wait until he's in college to explain what the "F." in John F. Kerry stands for.
As far as I can see, they made it up out of whole cloth. The first time I heard of it was yesterday.
It was obvious then it was nonsense.
The REPORTERS DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT!!! In their world that isn't always true, so they assume that is the case in the Military!!!!
Powell went after him .....and I mean there was real fire.
They just overreached.
They always do this......the RATS get cocky......and over reach.
There you go offering the truth as if it means a damn thing. Truth means nothing and that is lesson I am trying to pass along. I read every word of everything written about this national guard stuff and can see there's nothing there. I gather Bush manipulated and maneuvered his days serving to a)work on a congressional campaign and b)leave early to go to college. Such things are done often I understand.
PERCEPTION! It's not about the truth, forget about it. Truth means nothing. The perception was, during the sixties, that entry into the national guard meant a pass from the dirty, steamy jungle.
That's the whole problem with conservatives, you stand in nobility with the truth on your side and think it's enough. Go to hell, it's NOT enough. Even if *I* read every word about Bush and his national guard history, trust that the guy with two kids and a stressful job only heard Katie Courac mention it during a speedy spin interview with a Dem operative. Then it was probably couched as "Why do you think President Bush didn't fulfill his national guard duties?"-question by Katie. THIS is all Joe Yo-Yo hears and then he was shaving and trying to remember his schedule for the day.
Truth is worthless if no one hears it.
LOL!
I heard David Horowitz speak at a convention several years ago, and he stated the reason he was there was to "teach Republicans bad manners."
I jumped up and started applauding and cheering, as did a handful of other reformed_democrats scattered throughout the room. My unreformed_republican husband and the unreformed_republican couple who were at the table with me tried to hide under the chairs.
My long-suffering husband has since learned how to deal with me (he makes sure we never attend the same seminar), but he still balks at taking the game to the opposition.
That's why the dems hate us so much. We know how they work, and we're not afraid of them. We are their worst nightmare -- trained by them, now working for the other side.
