The body of a former teacher who was jailed for sex offences against three boys has been found cut into six pieces.
The dismembered body of Alan Wilson, 51, an expert on gruesome murders, was discovered in bags yesterday wrapped in a carpet and partly buried under rubbish in a communal garden behind an Edinburgh tenement block.
Forensic teams searched the garden and a ground floor flat yesterday. A man was being questioned last night.
Police sources said they did not believe the killing was a revenge attack.
The scene of the grisly discovery, in the prosperous Merchiston area, is close to some of the most sought-after homes in the city. Nearby residents include the novelists J K Rowling and Ian Rankin.
Rankin, the author of the Rebus crime novels, heard someone had been murdered "over the wall" from his detached home. He said. "This is not the sort of area where you expect this sort of thing to happen."
Wilson, a divorced father of two, was jailed for 18 months in May 2000 after being convicted of eight sexual assaults on three boys, aged 16 and 17, at James Gillespie's High School in Edinburgh between 1994 and 1999.
The former teacher, was also a former director of a company operating "ghost walks" in Edinburgh and the author of a book on historic murders in the city.

Rankin, the author of the Rebus crime novels... ...was a red herring. I'm thinking this was one o' them Harry Potter cult thingies...
