Unfortunatly, parents want teachers to raise their kids for them. They should, and often do, feel guilty for not being good parents. So to prove to themselves they are good parents they rush to the aid of their victim child, no matter how wrong the child was. Get a grip, Teacher should have used 100 mile an hour tape.

History? What's "History?" We have "Social Studies" in our schools these days.
I know a high school "Social Studies" teacher who devotes 15% of her American History carriculum to Native American issues. Seriously.

A little discipline never hurt anyone.

Just today, I gave my son's teacher permission to duct tape his mouth every time he uses a bad word.
He picks the language up on the playground and then uses it where teachers can hear him . . . kid doesn't think. (Actually, he's learning-disabled and ADD, but that's no excuse for foul language. I tell him he plays the hand he's dealt and plays it fair, no excuses.)
I'm taking her her very own roll of tape tomorrow, in a big bag labelled "REPEAT AS NECESSARY".
And I agree, any 11 year old who can't read or write needs to be in a special school. Been there, done that. We didn't wait until my son was 11 to get him some help.
