AUBURN NY- When Auburn's Microtel Inn and Suites employees smelled marijuana coming from one of their guest rooms, they discovered two Syracuse teenage girls who had been trading sex for drugs and money.
Syracuse's James B. Perry, 50, was charged Sunday morning after being found with a 13- and 14-year-old girl after Inn employees smelled pot emanating from Perry's room, Auburn City Police said. He was charged with having sexual contact with the two teenage girls and giving them marijuana.
Perry and the two girls knew each other and had been going to hotel rooms in Central New York, Northern New York and New York City. The two girls told police Perry had been giving them money and marijuana in exchange for sex.
"He admitted it was going on for a year," Det. Jeffrey Mead said.
Perry told police the three drove to Auburn Saturday night to buy appliances at the Lowe's Home Improvement on Grant Avenue but found it was closing, so they got a hotel room for the night. Perry met the teens through their parents.
When police arrived, they found 8.2 grams of marijuana. Perry was charged with second- and third-degree sexual abuse, second- and third-degree patronizing a prostitute, second-degree criminal sale of marijuana, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was re-arraigned Monday morning in Auburn City Court before Judge Michael McKeon.
His bail was set at $10,000 cash/bond and remanded to Cayuga County Jail. Perry will return to court Friday for a preliminary hearing.
The two girls were released to their parents, but the case was turned over to child protective services.

It started a year ago? When the girls were 12 and 13? And the charges don't include statuatory rape? Hello?

And the charges don't include statuatory rape? Hello?I think that's what they meant by 2d and 3d degree sexual abuse, but I could be wrong.

Parents? Parents? Parents?

I think that you are correct. They call it sexual assault in Florida. The 2nd and 3rd degree must imply that the minors consented, so it didn't get a 1st degree offense.

Perry met the teens through their parents.
So less than stellar judgement part of the parents figures heavily into this.

Man Charged In Alleged Sexual Assault On Dog
Bestiality Not Illegal In Florida
POSTED: 1:00 p.m. EST January 8, 2004
UPDATED: 5:30 p.m. EST January 8, 2004
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A West Palm Beach man faced charges Thursday after he was caught sexually assaulting a neighbor's dog, Palm Beach County deputies said.
Officials said William McPhillips, 50, a registered sex offender, sexually assaulted a young mixed-breed dog (pictured, left). Deputies said a caretaker at McPhillips' group home saw the attack.
"(McPhillips) noticed he was being watched," said Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputy Cassie Kovacs. "He covered himself with a sheet, and then the dog got away, and then she saw (McPhillips) masturbating himself."
Kovacs said McPhillips (pictured, far right) was allegedly sodomizing the dog with a spoon, and the dog was yelping in pain. Kovacs added that the incident was not the first time McPhillips has been seen involved in disturbing acts with the dog and other animals.
"According to the neighbors, he is always walking around with animals, kissing and licking them and everything -- cats, animals he picks up in the neighborhood," Kovacs said.
Neighbors told Kovacs that at least one cat emerged from McPhillips' home to lie lifeless in the grass.
Kovacs (pictured, below) said she was not able to arrest McPhillips for bestiality, only for animal cruelty and exposing himself. In Florida, it is not illegal to have sex with animals, Kovacs said.
Sex crimes prosecutor Lanna Belohlavek said bestiality was removed from the statute years ago when it was deemed unconstitutional.
"Now, it's only a crime if the animal was injured, or if the sex occurred before a child less than 16 years old -- its a second degree felony," Belohlavek said.
Belohlavek said that removing bestiality from the books might have been an oversight when laws were being rewritten.
Meanwhile, animal cruelty investigators said they've had several recent complaints but couldn't make any arrests, so they are working with county officials to draft a countywide bestiality law.
Animal advocates hope if a countywide law is passed, they might get state legislators to do the same.

8.2 grams of marijuana is just under 3 "eighths" of weed, which would weigh 10.5 grams. (3.5 grams is 1/8 and there's 8/8 in one ounce.) This guy probably gave the girls a half-ounce of weed in exchange for the sex.
This hits me two ways: first, the guy is obviously a disgusting scumbag who needs to be punished harshly! What kind of
*?@&!$# trades drugs for sex with 13 year old girls?! Secondly, the girls are stupid because I don't care what podunk little town you live in, you can find marijuana anywhere in New York State, from Manhattan to Champlain, Dunkirk to Oswego and every little town in between. You can get a half-ounce of weed around here for about $75 for crappy Mexican ditchweed, or $150 for top-shelf homegrown, NY's finest. I can tell you that when I was 14 I was smoking pot but it sure wasn't the good stuff!
And what the HELL is wrong with these girls' parents!? What relationship does this guy have to the girls where at 13 and 14 their parents would let them travel across the State with this guy?
So wrong on so many levels. Don't ask about my knowledge of, uh, weights and measures. :-)

It appears the girls were having fun. I don't think they were evaluating their profit margins.
