"we got problems brewin in the west .....again."
The problems have never stopped. The 1 or 2 percent who make the news are only because they decided to fight the BLM. Too many folks just figure they don't have the money needed to fight and just quit.

Anyone formulating a game plan, feel free to freep mail me, not in a good position to have to ride, but then, might not get a choice on this one either. We've never had a choice. Keep the fires burning and the truck gassed up. I'll be there.

It's great to read all the support my family is getting on this forum. Kit Laney is my DBIL, and has gone through absoulute hell since they bought the Diamond Bar Ranch in 1985. First one thing, then another, and I am really surprised that they have held up as well as they have! I know that news of your support will bolster their spirits greatly.
At this time, my husband, our 13 year old son and I are spending most of our time on the Diamond Bar, doing what we can to help out. Members of our church are fasting and praying for a good outcome to this saga, and it's all in God's hands now.
Just wanted to let you know that you and your thoughts on this are appreciated!

I was living up in Alaska when the public outcry over a planned wolf hunt was raised in the lower 48. Travel agencies were threatening boycotts on Alaskan tour packages.
Eventually, the state government came up with the slogan, "Visit Alaska this year or the wolf gets it", showing a picture of a wolf with a gun to its head.
Those were the years we had massive carnage to the wildlife populations. One year it was due to bitter prolonged cold. The temperatures in the interior didn't get above -60F for 21 straight days. A year or so later there was so much snow, animals couldn't forage. Wolves and moose were getting killed by trains and cars by the dozens because they wouldn't get off the tracks or roads due to the hard time they had with the deep snow.
Animal rights activists often don't realize that mother nature can be so cruel and unforgiving and that land can only support so much. Sometimes it's better to have a few die with a bullet than to have whole packs slowly starve to death over the course of a winter because there are too many for the food supplies to support. Such conditions can create more than just a nuisance, but can also increase dangers of fatal altercations with humans.
Don't you just love it when well-intentioned but ignorant people in cities a thousand miles away think they know what's better for you than you do on your own land?

Ever notice that it seems to be mostly working American, and therefor conservative areas that are being planned for these
"Wilderness" designations? Notice also that the great smokey area covers 50% of New Mexico:

This map presents planning areas for each Wildlands Network along the Rocky Mountain spine where the Wildlands Project science team and partner groups are identifying the most important habitat for wildlife, based on scientific principles, and the most sensible places to protect, based on political common sense. Each of these six areas contains some of North Americas biologically important, and threatened, wonders of Nature. Connected, they form the spine of the continent. 1. Yellowstone to Yukon (Y2Y) 2. Heart of the West 3. Southern Rockies 4. New Mexico Highlands 5. The Sky Islands 6. Northern Sierra Madre
New Mexico Highlands Here, herds of pronghorn outpace the wind; cranes and ducks thunder like a living storm; on pine and fir-clad mountains, bighorn sheep, elk, and black bears roam; on dry desert floors abundant populations of reptiles make a living among the cacti while fish and flycatchers travel cottonwood-lined river corridors. This ruggedly beautiful country is where the Rocky Mountains, Great Plains, Chihuahuan Desert, and Great Basin meet, forming a continental crossroads for wildlife. Recently completed, the New Mexico Highlands Wildlands Network Design sets out a practical vision for keeping the region wild.
