Islamic radicals are being trained at terrorist camps in Pakistan and Kashmir as part of a conspiracy to send hundreds of operatives to "sleeper cells" in the United States, according to U.S. and foreign officials.

The intelligence and law-enforcement officials say dozens of Islamic extremists have already been routed through Europe to Muslim communities in the United States, based on secret intelligence data and information from terrorists and others detained by U.S. authorities.

We don't know that he is waiting, or, if he is, what the reason may be.

Going by the area being discussed I, myself, assume the first task on agenda would be (gasp) intelligence gathering, then covert movement.

We obviously are aware of the intelligence involved, however any covert action has yet to be known to us.

What action that may come about to resolve the issue won't be something that will be made known before or during such action, so this time we won't have television camera crews awaiting our arrival!

Just an observation: I ride the trains in Philly.

I just started a short contract with a large financial institution in Boston and was required to take a test on the company's Business Recovery Plan in case something very bad happened at my site. I work in the John Hancock Tower and everybody had to complete the test by Feb. 11!

Permit me to ask a dumb question. If the FBI KNOWS where these cells are - why haven't they been deported/arrested? Isn't it the role of our government to "protect" it's citizens? Also, if they know which bogus charities and foundations are supporting them, why haven't they been shut down? Are all of our politicans stupid?

Well, anyway, I wrote "Bargained for Exchange" in 1995 and the plot idea came from the very University of South Florida individuals and issues that Judith Anne references. For years, we knew of the goings on and had the wiretaps and other evidence but it wasn't shared. And because of that, we heard from Al Arian's supporters in the Muslim community and the academic community that, "he hasn't been charged with anything so he must be innocent". It was not until the post 9/11 mandating of the sharing of information that the domestic agencies needed and the international agencies already had that the indictments came down. So blame Church and Carter and the other emasculators of the intelligence community and the PC restrictions that make people afraid to accuse the most likely. And stupidity, too, because even those problems haven't been solved or adequately addressed.
And, oh yes, Judith Anne, Steve Emerson is the man to go to on this subject.

Just another comment--does anyone remember the little lady in Florida who overheard three ME types discussing terrorism plans, and she reported them? Remember they were at a restaurant on the highway...she overheard their conversation and reported them...they were stopped, and it turned out they were "medical students" and everybody made fun of the lady for being paranoid?

I didn't, and I think she actually heard some plans, which were foiled by her report. Laugh at me too, if you want.
