Defense Dept. Seeks Bush's Guard File
By Lois Romano
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 10, 2004; Page A07
The Defense Department has requested that President Bush's payroll records from his service in the National Guard be sent to Washington from a DOD archive in Colorado, to ascertain whether they can be released to news organizations and public interest groups that have formally requested them in recent days, according to DOD officials.
[snip]
At issue is a 12-month period, commencing in May 1972, when Bush moved to Alabama to work on a senatorial campaign. He received permission to transfer to an Alabama unit and was instructed to report to duty there. There is no definitive evidence in his file that he reported to the Alabama unit to perform drills; Bush has said he did report and perform drills.
Bush's personnel records also are vague on what he did in the Texas Guard after returning to Houston after the Senate election he worked on. The first date in the records for 1973 is May 29, when they indicate he attended drills. The records show he attended drills at least 18 times between May 29 and July 30.

To further prove my stupidity, what the heck does ARF stand for? A Google search is doing me little good thusfar.

Well since they are digging up files, maybe we can see JFKerry's files. FOI anyone? According to the Boston Globe .. Kerry denied a request to have them released

Ambrose, one question.
Where is the Alabama stationing listed on this document?
Isn't that supposed to have been in 72, I don't see that listed on there?
BTW, What is the origin of this document?
To: ambrose
You're right...and I think it's vile to do something like this to the sitting President of the United States. Trying to put doubt in people's minds about our Commander in Chief during a time of war is absolutely, positively repulsive to me.

I dunno... I think the Alabama thing was much the same way as if you studied abroad during college. Technically, the credits/grades go on your stateside transcript...
These docs are floating around on the 'net. Could they be forged? Possible... but all of this stuff was released previously. They're just bringing it up again because it looks like Kerry will be the nominee. I guarantee you we wouldn't be hearing a peep of this if it looked liked Howard Dean was going to be the nominee.

Well, if there is any question about these possibly being forged, they don't exactly form the foundation of solid "proof" against the AWOL thing.
Seriously, there are documents floating around the net that supposedly prove the Earth is hollow, and that aliens crashed at Roswell in 1947.
What we need is rock solid proof. I'm actually surprised that Bush isn't screaming louder than anyone else to get the real documentation released so this conversation would just be brought to a screeching halt.

Nomination for post of the day.

Thanks for being helpful - I'm not questioning Bush as I think Bush is being straight. I am questioning this freaken ARF statement of points. I can see it being AFR for Air Force Reserve but ARF. I should have picked up at least a little bit on ARF statements doing a google search but it only leads me to a few liberal sites? I mean are these nutjob liberals showcasing an ARF title when it should be AFR or is there such a thing as ARF statements?

ARF - Air Reserve Forces
Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard personnel.

W's discharge papers list him as being both National Guard and Air Force Reserves.
Some Bush-hating guy has been going around since 2000 claiming that ARF is a disciplinary unit, and that from 1972 onwards, W did no service time. That contention is contradicted by this document:
http://users.cis.net/coldfeet/doc17.gif It orders W to report on 5-22 to 5-24, and the "Statement of Points" indeed gives W credit for those days.
I wonder what James Carville thinks about all of this? In 1992, he coined the phrase "It's the economy, stupid!" I guess the Kerry campaign has a sign which reads "It's the National Guard, stupid!"

Tom - Do you have a web site? Is this the liberal web site that was exposing this decayed farce?
To: KellyAdmirer
This is so absolutely unbelievably ridiculous, inane and irrelevant to anything, I now expect a major campaign issue to arise over Quemoy and Matsu at some point before the election. No kidding. And none of these articles point out that the original charge was made by Michael Moore, known liar.
