Defense Dept. Seeks Bush's Guard File
By Lois Romano
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 10, 2004; Page A07
The Defense Department has requested that President Bush's payroll records from his service in the National Guard be sent to Washington from a DOD archive in Colorado, to ascertain whether they can be released to news organizations and public interest groups that have formally requested them in recent days, according to DOD officials.
[snip]
At issue is a 12-month period, commencing in May 1972, when Bush moved to Alabama to work on a senatorial campaign. He received permission to transfer to an Alabama unit and was instructed to report to duty there. There is no definitive evidence in his file that he reported to the Alabama unit to perform drills; Bush has said he did report and perform drills.
Bush's personnel records also are vague on what he did in the Texas Guard after returning to Houston after the Senate election he worked on. The first date in the records for 1973 is May 29, when they indicate he attended drills. The records show he attended drills at least 18 times between May 29 and July 30.

These docs are floating all over the net in different places. They were obtained back in 2000.

According to the WSJ, Bush made his service files available during the 2000 election. The Democrats are counting on the public not waiting for a response and only hearing the accusations.

His and allllll the little donkey's running for president, those in public and that one hidden behind the curtains, polling her negatives every week.

To be honest, I'd rather not have a partisan of either strip doing any vetting.
These records should be released as a matter of course.
We shouldn't have to require additional Government agencies to make these guys do what they should be required to do before they toss their hat in the ring.
That goes for both sides of the aisle...
All this BS about locked up records, or records secreted away in this Presidental library, or that Governor's private record stash should be grounds enough to eliminate that person from even running, much less winning the Oval office.
I would dare say, I'd like to see included in that records release ALL arrest records, all criminal records, and the like.
Let's get this crap into the sunlight...

Does give one pause what priorities some have. This has come to child's play, ignoring the warnings each and every day.

Start looking into Kerry's voting record's on military programs...Here's one for ya, Apache? That kick ass helo of ours, Kerry voted against. And there are WAY more military programs that are resulting in today's victories that Kerry has voted against. Once I have a compiled list, I'll post it to it's own thread. Kerry's voting past is damning.

What's the area blacked out? Anyone know? Dick Cheney and Halliburton paid $5 billion to have that removed. Yes indeed, they will pay that much to have one word redacted.

All the files from 1973 back burned at the St. Louis facility, that includes records from the Civil War, W.W.I, W.W. II, Korea, etc.. There are duplicate records of some of that stuff.

You really think "records" would exist if one had ambitions for becoming the President.
Sounds like an ideal plan, but we are dealing with human beings, and human nature had not changed one bit.
I really don't need to see JFKerry's records to know the man is a two faced politician. His VOTES recorded along with the public record of his speeches, give me plenty to determine his character.
What kind of a man "VOTES" to give the authority to go to WAR and a few short months later, for his own political expediency will not vote to FUND that war. Then he has the nerve to claim he cares for VETERANS. This is public knowledge no need to see any files.

The article said that the copy they had back in 2000 didn't have a name and SSN on it. How come your copy has Bush's name on it? Are these different versions or different files?
Anyone know if those payroll records were public info in 2000?

I take it your post indicates that the Post is lying and the records are already public???

To be honest, I don't disagree with your view, however, that being said, I still think BOTH sides need to have their feet held to the fire on this, and let the chips fall where they will.
I'm sick to death of these guys, again, both sides, wrapping themselves up in rented uniforms, then acting all offended when the idea of the public seeing their actual military records is suggested.

ARF is not service. This shows points awarded but not dates of service. It is QUITE possible that W slacked off a bit- ARF is a kind of disciplinary HOLD like TDA. No duty days are served in ARF usually. The document you give practically proves that while W was young he made some sort of mistake and got disciplined. Also possible is that he was ARF in Texas and served in Alabama. The records will clear that up.

Wow, a lot of words expended in all this that seem pretty dam useless...I think I graduated from college in 1972 but dont ask me to swear to it,it was over 30 years ago.

These docs were delivered in response to FOIA requests back in the 2000 election, and have been posted on Bush-hating blogs. With these docs, they have been reduced to now speculating that Bush was disciplined for bad behavior, and these records really pertain to some kind of military prison Bush was in.
No, I am not making that up.

Bush seems to have gotten an "early-out", as did Kerry. As did Gore. Even Clark, who got canned.

This is so absolutely unbelievably ridiculous, inane and irrelevant to anything, I now expect a major campaign issue to arise over Quemoy and Matsu at some point before the election.
