As far as I'm concerned, Kerry's few months of service in VN doesn't make up for his lifetime of being a societal leech.

Because it is working - given a gullible public and a compliant national press corpse:
When you do a Google search on "Kerry + Vietnam + war +hero" you get 25,400 web hits.
When you repeat the search with "-Kerry" (to exclude Kerry) you get over 100,000 hits. Means Kerry is specifically been linked (by name!) as a Vietnam war "hero" explicitly and deliberately over 25,000 times. And that ONLY since he declared his candidacy. Want to bet it go up ten times that in the next few months?
Want to find how Bush is regarded? Check "Vietnam + Bush + coward" = 13,800 times.
"Bush + AWOL + Vietnam"? 22,000 times.
"Bush + AWOL + Alabama"? 7,490 times.

Anyone got a copy of the book THE NEW SOLDIER by JOHN KERRY published in 1971?
It is enough to make you sick of him trying to build on his military service and the time he was a member of the VVAW or Vietnam Vets Against War.

In Mr. Kerry's case, he has taken the dovish side of nearly every foreign policy debate since he entered public life. Boston ChickenTM

Kerry remains the only man in the history of the US Navy to be awarded the Silver Star for running his boat aground and then having to fight his way out of his own mess. He should have been court martialed.

'"They obviously misused information and misled the American people," said Kerry in an interview on MSNBC television. "The administration itself promised us they would build an international coalition, that they would honor the United Nations inspections and they would go to war as a last resort. They did none of those things, I intend to hold the president accountable for that in the course of this race."
And Sir Kerry bravely ran away from Iraq...
