NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Al Gore, who lost the presidency to George W. Bush in 2000, assailed the commander in chief Sunday, accusing him of betraying the nation by invading Iraq.
"He took America on an ill-conceived foreign adventure, dangerous to our troops, that was preordained and planned before 9-11," Gore told Tennessee Democrats at a party event.
The former vice president said that he, like millions of others, had put partisanship aside after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and wanted Bush to lead the nation. Instead, Gore shouted to the crowd, Bush "betrayed us."
Gore, who won the popular vote in 2000 but lost the electoral vote to Bush, likened the Republican's administration to that of former President Nixon.
"Nixon was no more committed to principle than the man on the moon," Gore said. "He cared as little about what it means to be conservative as George Bush does about imposing ... budget deficits.
"It has nothing to do with conservatism and everything to do with his efforts to get re-elected."
Gore, who endorsed Howard Dean for the nomination, complimented the former Vermont governor on his decision to speak out against the war in Iraq, for bringing new people into the party and for raising money through the Internet.
"I appreciate what he's done about giving the party it's voice back," he said of Dean.
Although Gore campaigned in Iowa and other states for Dean, he did promote the Democrat's candidacy in his home state of Tennessee.
No matter who wins on Tuesday in the primary, Gore called on Democrats to unite behind their nominee, saying "any of these candidates are better than George W. Bush."

Al must be upset that Dean imploded and his endorsement was all for naught.
To: yonif
Al, you betrayed America when you stepped up to the microphone and proclaimed Billy Jeff to be our 'greatest' president.

>>Al Gore, who lost the presidency to George W. Bush in 2000
Had he won his home state, he would have squeaked by. We need to not only thank Tenn., but also N.H.--Bush won that state
very narrowly. If Gore took NH, he'd be in regardless of
the Florida results.
>>Instead, Gore shouted to the crowd, Bush "betrayed us."
This from a guy who stuck a knife in the back of his running made, Lieberman, by endorsing Dean, and behind his back,
too. No courtesy phone call. Oh, and since he DID endorse
Dean, will Kerry invite Algore up on stage at the Communist--er, Dem. Convention in Boston? Gore knows how to pick 'em (though Kerry's no prize either)
>>Gore, who won the popular vote in 2000 but lost the electoral vote to Bush
Please keep reminding liberals of this. It IS in the
Constitution and you can bet if it had been Gore squeaking by Bush by a few electoral votes, despite Bush winning the popular vote, the libs would say, "But it's in the constitution! See, the Electoral College! We won fair
and square!" :) And you wouldn't have had Shrillary calling for the abolition of the Electoral College :)

I hope he latches onto Kerry or Edwards, and send either one down into a smoldering heap like Dean. Algore to me is like the Charlie Brown of politics, anything he comes in contact with, falls apart.

Really sick. I think one stock answer to the democrat traitors should be, "We have Sadaam, do you want us to put him back in power?"

Gore whom?
Last thing we want is an endorsement from this loser!
Whatever he touches, the subject turns to crap - he has the reverse midas syndrome.
Tell Mr. Gore that OBL needs his endorsement so we can catch OBL in due time.
Gore is cursed by God if you look at how unlucky this guy's timing was in the last 12 months. Maybe the dims are peaking here with the corpse speaking out.
