Letter from Sam Johnson regarding illegal immigration

Dear Beerswillr,
Knowing of your interest in immigration, I wanted to let you know my take on President Bush's recent proposal.
The Administration immigration initiative is unworkable and irresponsible. Please be assured that I strongly oppose any and all forms of amnesty.
At the moment, I'm working with members of the Texas delegation to counter President Bush's proposal and develop a common-sense solution. We must realistically acknowledge that border-security issues and law enforcement go hand-in-hand with immigration. At this point, I only agree with President Bush that illegal immigration has become a problem of catastrophic proportions.
Immigration to this country is a privilege, not a right. I fully support legal immigration. People who wait their turn to become citizens should be rewarded. Those who enter America illegally should be deported.
In addition, as a member of the Immigration Reform Caucus, we are thoroughly examining this hot-button issue.
Frankly, homeland security means protecting our country from potential threats. Ways to do that include shoring up our borders and stopping illegal immigration.
We must keep America safe.
God bless you and God bless America.
Sincerely,
Sam Johnson Member of Congress

I got this the other day from Sam Johnson. It's in response to an email I sent him criticizing President Bush's stance on illegal immigration and asking him for his position.

Looks like he sent the freeper "normy" the same letter, but this is the type of form letter I'd like to get.

Sam clearly sees the reality of political office.
Mr. President, it's either your job or mine. I love mine, so I am going to listen to the voters in my District. I hope you will too because John Kerry sucks.
Respectfully, Sam Johnson

It's nice to see good news.
We have engaged in a very serious letter writing/email campaign to our representative, Paul Ryan, a very conservative budget hawk. Have not yet received an answer. I am looking forward to a similar letter though. We also attend many of his listening sessions and I am absolutely amazed how few people actually show up. The good news is that it allows me and others like me, more open discussion time on the conservative issues. I suppose those looking for handouts think he's too conservative to ask for any. In the past I have found our representatives to be much more receptive. Our senators (Feingold and Kohl) are lost causes.
Thanks for posting this.

You're lucky to have Sam Johnson as your rep. My rep here in CA is Jane Harman, who can't even be bothered to respond to e-mails or letters. If it concerns illegal immigration she is deaf. Can you imagine that? California has been invaded, and she won't even listen.
