U.S. soldier killed south of Baghdad
Sun 8 February, 2004 19:12
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - One U.S. soldier has been killed by a bomb planted on a road south of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, a U.S. military spokesman said.
He said the soldier died at about 4.30 p.m. on Sunday near the town of Mahmudiya, about 20 km (12 miles) south of Baghdad.
His death brought the number of American soldiers killed in combat since the start of the U.S.-led war in Iraq to 370.

Even when Reuters has only 3 lines worth of information, they dedicate the final word to summarizing the losses. They couldn't fit all this brave Soldier and his fellow troops have
accomplished over the past 9 months in their newspapers, but an occassional mention of the thousands of children we know have been saved by the actions of our troops would be a kindness from a press who owes it's very freedom to our troops making mighty sacrifices, today and yesterday.
FoxNews reporter witnessed the death of this brave Soldier, an EOD expert approaching the third roadside bomb, the first two having been successfully (handled) when the Soldier reached down, the bomb exploded.
Reports also of three of our Soldiers wounded in Mosul, IED attack.
Still no word from CENTCOM.
All gave some.
Some gave all.

Dear Lord, comfort the friends and loved ones of our fallen and wounded Soldiers, and bless all who bravely choose to serve your precious cause of freedom in harm's way.

I wish all the leftist press would have to go live in a "media intolerant" state, like say, Iran or N. Korea for maybe about 3 years.
Perhaps they'd have a bit different perspective on the blessings in their lives.
God bless the family of this fallen hero and all our military serving our countries and their families serving here at home.

They are saying that this is another incident where a roadside bomb blew up when the soldier approached it.
We have had several incidents of soldiers not trained in bomb disposal being killed trying to disarm one of these roadside bombs.
In my mind, the proper way to disarm these homemade bombs is to blow them up from a distance. Blow them up with a hand grenade, blow them up with an RPG, catapult a rock onto them.
But to send a soldier up to it when the enemy tactic is to try and kill several soldiers a day seems to me to be a very, very, poor tactic.
We had one soldier blown up trying to take a bomb off of a telephone pole. Well frankly, there is no telephone pole in Iraq worth a US soldier's life and they should have just blown the damn thing up.
