Oh, of course state workers are needed. I teach at a University (Auburn) so it is part of the state of Alabama, makes me a sort of state worker (though I paid from tuitions, mostly). Down here, many of the state workers are fairly conservative, too.

I took a Labor Relations course at AU (Management Department, School of Business) years ago and my professor was a serious pro-union, liberal. We butted heads all quarter. He certainly did not fit the mold of the rest of the Business School staff. I was pleasantly surprised when he was turned down for tenure. If I'm not being too personal, what is your field at Auburn?
