Exactly right. This inteview is not for us who live and breath this stuff, it is for those who tune in only when it matters.
You see a President who stays above the nasty rhetoric in contrast to a group of lying phony jerks who would say anything just to win.
Just like when they stood Gore next to Bush, Gore looked like nothing but a desparate liar. Kerry will look like a lying snake. Then, when the selling votes and the gigalo stuff starts on Kerry, this will be over quickly.

It'll be interesting to see the parts of this interview that are shown on Dateline tonight.I gotta remember to tape it - I'll put it on the same tape after the MTP show that was shown this morning.

My wife is not as political as I am although she would never vote for a democrat for several reasons, not the least of whichis abortion.
We watched the President on MTP together and her comment after it was over was. "well I guess the President kicked that interviewers ass>"
I agree with her but I am as partisan as it gets.

You nailed it as to the success/failure of this interview. It is how this is viewed by the politically non-committed. With regard to those people I think that he is doing well.
Yes, that's why I, too, think it is important for GW to get out more like this, with the press. When the politically non-committed see him more, they WILL like him.
I also think it is to the GOP's credit when they acknoledge and respect Kerry's service to this country, but, then go on to say why they disagree with him. That is a good way to be, in my opinion, because I don't personally hate Kerry or Edwards or any of them - but, I do think GW has earned a 2nd term. It's as simple as that to me.

Russert looks like an oaf. What is with his hair? Is it a toupe or a bad dye job? I've never particularly liked him but his 'attack' interview was sickening.

Now that We act, you lefties really need to own your allegiance to the dark side or get onboard The War on Terrorism.

I don't understand why you're so hot and bothered. President Bush needed a tough interview and Russert gave him one. Bush did a good job.
What I find interesting is what Russert didn't touch on because he kept hammering about Iraq and the economy: Immigration, gay marriage, abortion, guns, education, judicial nominees, the Patriot Act; or did I miss something?
To: Pukin Dog
when the selling votes and the gigalo stuff starts on Kerry, this will be over quickly.
Have you seen this week's National Enquirer? This "gigalo stuff" has already started. (And, that is exactly what some Dem voters on Dem sites predicted about Kerry.)

Bush will win handily in my state, he won't need my vote. THAT'S what you guys must have been thinking in 1992 that gave Clinton victory with *just* 42% of the vote -
- or did you actually think Perot could win?

Haven't read this thread yet -- watching the interview right now --- Why doesn't President Bush mention Nazi Germany??? Hitler was "no immediate threat" to the American people! Why doesn't Bush ask Timmy if he thinks all our men who died fighting Germany in WWII died in vain?

Fiscal sustainability should be a good issue for conservatives if they're really interested in reducing the power and cost of federal government policies and programs. Raising taxes will only lock in the out of control spending policies for future generations, so dramatic reductions in the power and cost of federal government programs and policies is the only real option if the Constitutional requirement to protect the Liberty of our Posterity is to be enforced. I would imagine the numbers for 2070 would be even more disturbing than the 2040 numbers. Fiscal conservatives should thank Mr. Russert for pointing out how important massive reductions in spending are to the future of our country.

I think what the liberal press doesn't get that normal people do is the economy is bad because two planes flew into the twin towers. And Bush's response to that has been what has made him into a great President.
To: Alas Babylon!
NBC -- NOTHING BUT COMMUNISM -- here's their one-two punch: Timmy followed by Chrissie -- Russett then Mathews -- what RAT nonsense. Give us a break.

The reason he had to keep repeating himself on that point is that Russert refused to acknowledge that the president even pointed out that fact, much less that it is true. Ah yes. How to Make Russert Look Bad Without Overtly Criticizing Him.
i.e., anyone with any sense could see it was because Russert kept asking the same question over & over again, but the President didn't come right out & SAY that....
