Ed Gordon on Chris Matthews: Bush went on MTP because they've seen the dems in action and they're all "scared to death" of losing.

David Brooks agrees with this.

Chris Matthews says why is he now saying the threat wasn't imminent.

Matthews says who said imminent?

(I'm biting my tongue)

I'm half way through the program, and President Bush has controlled the interview,--- he's in command and Tim looks stupid, repeating himself ad nauseum.

I am very pleased thus far, and very proud of President Bush.

Kerry may well have known him as a Yalie but not personally.... which is what Kerry was trying to intimate.

It reflects more on Russert's "gotcha" mentality. When you're telling the truth, as the President is, the answers don't change.

When you're trying to trap someone,as Russert is, the way the (same) question is phrased changes.

I just heard the POTUS say it is "History's calling to America" to "fight aids" and "feed the hungry." History's calling to America? What does that even mean?

I don't think the president looked bad either. He's just entering into the political fray now as he's been too busy leading the country. He'll be fine once the debates are here.

"Who is more conservative: the democrat Senator from Georgia or the Republican President?"

You're joking, right? Who voted to put Tom Daschle in as majority leader of the U.S. Senate so he could block tax cuts, the WOT, and stall the PBA bill? None other than Zell Miller. Miller is a great guy . . . for a Dem. But don't be a moron. He's conservative only to a point, and that point is when it comes to supporting his PARTY when he was still in power.

That's disgraceful. Where's the jump in the GDP? The increase in the stock market? Job growth? Etc Etc.

FWIW, Russert was disgraceful in attacking Bush with these loaded questions... totally one-sided, he would never pound Kerry, Clinton, or other top Dems with a constant bombardment of questions.

Bush didn't fare as well as I had hoped. His responses were disjointed, almost always stayed on the defensive, and when he had an opportunity to be aggressive and fight back (i.e.- when asked about Kerry's constant bombardments against him, and the AWOL charges), Bush simply said it's politics, rather than saying that it's a disgrace that he's constantly being attacked with lies and half-truths...

Bush's team had better start fighting back, before it's too late. I'll say it again, Cheney is a liability and should consider stepping aside and become a senior adviser.

He's doing a pretty good job so far (halfway into the interview here), and he has not called those Republicans who disagree with his policies trolls or troublemakers, either.

I also appreciate when GW says, flat out, that some matters are just political attacks, because hey, guess what, folks
-- this IS an election year. No matter how much enthusiasm Kerry is able to whip up on the Dem side, I still think GW will win this election in a landslide.

I think Kerry's voting record and his own words should be used AGAINST him. I'm not sure the president will do that however.

I don't think the President will go negative at all, but Club for Growth, etc., will do all it/they can to bring out the truth about Kerry.

David Brooks said he heard somone introducing Kerry at an event and they said "This election is about the future and not something that happened in New York two years ago".

(Me: appalled)

Chris Matthews said President Bush gave a "really second rate State of the Union".

Millbank says his credibility is falling.

Russert; ........... central role for the UN in Ieaq?

G.W.; ........... a vital role for the UN in Iraq.

Tim's a spineless Dem. sycophant.

This interview is a disgrace to fairness. Russert basically asked the same question for a half hour. Russert is a gaping a**hole! (But, I think Russert is smart enough to be eternally ashamed of the tone of this pathetic hit-piece of an "interview".)

BTW, since G.W. had to answer the same question, over and over again, he had to say, "I don't want to sound like a broken record," at least twice, maybe three times.

Who wants to bet the liberal media splices those quotes back to back to back in the next week, in order to make G.W. look foolish?

talking about the ludicrous McAuliffe AWOL charge.

I wouldn't denigrate service to the NG... there are a lot of really fine people who served and are serving in Iraq.

YOu don't just say I did something without there being verification--I got an honorable discharge, with I wouldn't have gotten if I didn't show up.

People have been looking for these files... The records are kept in Colorado, as I understand. I'm telling you, I did my duty... what I don't like (angry) is saying that serving in NG is not serving the country.

I flew fighters, I was part of the air defense command system. The thing about Vietname--we had politicians making military decisions. Lesson for president--set the goal, but allow the military to achieve that goal.

GWB; market declined in 2000, recession started upon my arrival

I felt he handled this poorly. It came across as sounding as if it started as soon as he came on board (that it was his fault) rather than explaining the concept of a recession- that it means it's 2 quarters of negative growth, and that most of that period started under Klinton's term.
