LOOSE LIPS (Teresa Heinz Kerry---not exactly an asset)
New York Post - Page Six | 6/20/03 | Richard Johnson with Paula Froelich & Chris Wilson

June 20, 2003

Sen John Kerry's ketchup heiress wife, Teresa Heinz, is shaping up to be no help in his bid for the White House.

The other day Heinz made a bizarre speech to the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus in which she failed to mention Kerry even once.

The Boston Herald described it as a "35-minute harangue about hormones and the big, bad pharmaceutical companies' conspiracy against women."

One attendee described it as "endless, pointless and confusing" and "far, far too technical," noting people all but ran for the door.

I saw a post on an animal rights website where she had
supposedly stated that rabbit was a perfect food for
children. They were quite concerned about their animal
rights position. I was just lurking, but I wanted to tell
them that these people probably ate scads of little fish
eggs (caviar) as well as filet mignon, cocque au vin,
baby partridges, French snails, Germen schnecken in herb
butter, buttered butterfly tongues and veal ala marsala
every night of the week. I just couldn't get connected to
the posting apparatus.

I understand that she has portraits of her first husband and Kerry facing each other in her foyer (pronounced foy-ahh). I also read that Mrs. Heinz Kerry wears the engagement rings from both husbands, simultaneously. That just tells me Mr. Kerry is somewhat of a wimp.

Although Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., sits on the Senate Commerce Committee that likely will have a role in shaping any Medicare drug package, his wife Teresa, a Heinz family heiress, owned shares in eight drug companies worth $2.1 million to $4.2 million.

Heinz Kerry made trips Wednesday to Davenport and Clinton, areas that have suffered economically since the mid-1980s. In a discussion that touched on several issues, she said cities that are losing young people can rebound. "We've come around," said Heinz Kerry, who has been recognized for contributing to the redevelopment of Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania.

She also is noted for developing strategies to protect the environment, improve education and broaden economic opportunities. And she rejected the notion that preserving the environment has to come at the expense of jobs.

She also said the country should invest more in children earlier, noting the country spends thousands on people who end up in jail. "We need a Marshall plan for children," she said, referring to the post-World War II rebuilding of Europe.

In promoting her husband, Heinz Kerry - who married Sen. Kerry in 1995 after the two met at an environmental conference in Brazil - called him a leader in foreign policy issues. "He's not afraid of the world," she said, adding, "he's a very persistent fighter. He's a cool-headed fighter."

Freudian?

I think Carl Cameron (Campaign Carl)had a Freudian slip on Fox News tonight.

When he was reporting the AFSME union had pulled their endorsement for Howard Dean he said he didn't know if hey would "Lurch " to Kerry. - tom

I've watched several of her amusing performances during Kerry's campaign. She always looks like she about three breaths away from a total collapse. She sits in the corner of the stage while Johnny rants and when it's her turn she can barely muster the strength to bring herself to her feet. Once she's up and has the microphone, she shuffles in front of the stage and looks at the floor as she drools out some inaudible blather. It seems likely to me that she abuses horse tranquilizers.

Campaigning in African American Churches (Seperation of Church and State ONLY applies to the "little people" (like us) and/or Republicans (Democrats get a pass, expecially in African American churches)...Barry Lynn where are you?!

On Sunday, Teresa Heinz Kerry was in metro Detroit stumping for Michigan's Feb. 7 Democratic caucus. She visited four churches and the North American International Auto Show with former Gov. Jim Blanchard and his wife, Janet, and state Sen. Buzz Thomas.

The day starts early for Kerry, who's not a morning person. Running a little late, she descends in an elevator to the lobby of Greektown's Atheneum Hotel, looking trim and casually chic in a gray pinstriped pantsuit and stiletto-heeled shoes, a yellow sweater thrown over her shoulders.

At each church, she tells the mostly African-American congregations that she grew up in colonial East Africa and marched against apartheid as a college student in South Africa.

At Great Faith Ministries, Bishop Wayne Jackson places his hands on her forehead and offers her a blessing. Kerry stands quietly for it, holding her palms up.

At the auto show, she focuses on the American cars, paying close attention to a Ford Escape hybrid.

"You can fit a lacrosse stick in the back, you can fit hockey equipment," she says afterward, back at the Atheneum. "It's fuel efficient in the city and big enough for a family."

Fluent in five languages, she worked for the United Nations as an interpreter before marrying Heinz in 1966.

In 1992, she got to know John Kerry at an Earth Summit in Brazil. They married in 1995.

Like most wealthy movers and shakers, Kerry lives in several homes and is close to a network of influential people. During her Detroit trip, she's accompanied by a longtime pal, Melinda Blinken, wife of a former ambassador. As the Kerry caravan drives by Henry Ford Hospital on West Grand Boulevard, Blinken pulls out her cell phone.

"Charlotte, I just passed by your hospital," Blinken says to Charlotte Ford, daughter of Henry Ford II. "I'm with Teresa."

"The kind of campaigning I do is not, generally speaking, handshakes, chat, chat, chat. What I do best is when I'm with a group of 20, 40, 100, where you can see people's faces and have a conversation . . . If I couldn't do that, I would be pretty frustrated." Talking about a first lady's role, she has this to say: "Probably the most important thing a spouse -- eventually I hope it's a man -- of a president has to do is keep them honest, remember who they are, not let people who'll say anything derail them, keep them strong and healthy and keep them hopeful."

This is one topic where it's easy for her to stay on message.

"They keep asking, 'Wwho's your favorite first lady, Wwho are you going to be like,' " she says. "I say I'm going to be me."

Ketchup is only an ingredient of BBQ Sauce.

It would never cut-the-mustard in the Carolinas!
