Confronting anti-tax Republicans in the Legislature, U.S. Sen. John W. Warner, R-Va., yesterday called for tax increases, boosts in fees and budget cuts to improve Virginia schools, health care and transportation.

"Politics be damned! Let's consider what's best for the men and women of this great state and their families and children," said Warner, considered the senior statesman in the state GOP.

Back in those days he was a little more palatable (although just as much of a clymer) because we weren't winning anywhere.

I don't think it's all a matter of everyone else changing - i.e., people are less willing to tolerate him than they used to be. I think that's some of it, but it also seems clear to me that he's also drifting farther and farther out into orbit as he gets older...

See my reply #20.

What has Cantor shown us who voted him in but contempt? He needs to go too.

Bobby Scott voted better than Cantor on issues such as CFR.

Even if his motives were leftwing, it was still better than young Eric's support of Bush's socialism.

Correction, it was the free pills Bobby Scott voted against.

I agree with you (or Rush, rather) in part. They are entirely manufactured top-down issues, but they have successfully manipulated the hysterical and immature populace into believing they're real.

People on government assistance should not be allowed to vote. I think that might be a workable solution.

What in the hell do you expect out of some guy who was married to Michael Jackson's buddy, Liz Taylor. Apparently the capon could not satisfy her so she took up with that model of masculinity, Michael.

I do not know when Warner's Senate term is up, but I will be happy to send a donation to any Republican who challenges him.

Warner's hostility to private firearms ownership is revolting. He has no problem with Fedgoon ninjas owning firearms, but private ownership is his bete noire

So you don't buy the Democrat's arguement that there are 45 million people uninsured in this country? I know I don't! Unfortunately, too many people do. It's a canard, just like "Bush has lost almost 3 million jobs". Say outrageous, unsubstantiated lies often enough with a willing media as enablers and, soon, it becomes fact.

He said "politics" not "voters" and I'd be willing to bet that yes he is planning to run again.

He'll be 81 next time around (2008).

Yes, but . . . I think we can agree that Strom was the exception. How much prune juice has Warner been drinking lately? Seems to me he's the kind of guy who'd rather kick back a few with Ted Kennedy. I'm willing to bet he slows down (or dies, not to be morbid) in the next 5 years.

Senator Warner has always been a scumbag. He's a Jeffords-in-waiting.

I think Ollie could take him out next time.

"Politics be damned! Let's consider what's best for the men and women of this great state and their families and children," said Warner, considered the senior statesman in the state GOP.

Senior Statesman?? That's a term of repsect and even endearment and does not apply in this case. From where I stand and among other Republicans of my acquaintance, John Warner is the most hated GOP elected official.

I asked how the new job was and his quizzical response was, I am OK with the job but I am contemplating seeking a new position back home in SC. I asked why, his answer was "VA is a dark place, I miss the lightness of SC"!

Then tell him to pull his head out of his a$$.

Yeah, but so does the Goobner who doesn't remember his own campaign promises, much less what happened last year.

We need more money, we need more money...
