BEDFORD, Ind. -- A reserve sheriff's deputy searching for a runaway teenager shot an unarmed man who was hiding in a closet with the girl as he tried to escape, state police said.

Robert Wilson, 27, of Oolitic suffered a gunshot wound to his calf in the Wednesday night shooting. He was released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Thursday and was being held in the Lawrence County Jail.

While I appreciate you signing up for FR apparently to offer me that message, I couldn't subscribe to any God who gave us Life so that we would "put it aside" (or that there should be any conflict between the spiritual realm & this World). I consider myself to be spiritual about Reality. I believe that our purpose as living, thinking beings is to use technology (aided by capialism) to conquer the diseases of aging, to eventually conquer death itself. Join us, and maybe we can all be saved.

On the other hand, I realize that I'm not going to convert everyone, but I know that Christians & Jews nowadays are mostly just trying to live a decent life, as opposed to dogmatic leftist athiests & those in third world death cults. We can agree to work together to promote the Good and destroy the evil, or we can keep trying to convert each other, while the evil continues to fester.

A serious question: if the police know a suspect is unarmed (or have no reason to believe that he is armed), can they shoot him if he runs away? I realize there may be much more to this story.
