And that was in a game against Canada on Thursday before just 1,500 people.
A game Tuesday in neighboring Guadalajara will determine whether the U.S. under-23 soccer team heads to the Athens Games.
"This is what it is all about," coach Glenn Myernick said. "You are 90 minutes away from being in the Olympics."

The US needs to play its home games in Columbus, Ohio in January or February like they did against Costa Rica. It's so cold, and that helps us.I couldn't agree more. It's almost like having home field advantage at the Home Depot Center. However, IIRC, the game you're thinking of in February was the US/Mexico qualifier before WC2002. The Costa Rica game was in September of 2000.

I wouldn't bother too long with Dane. Read his post history, his only purpose is to be disruptive and insulting. He adds nothing to the topics.I have a theory that Dane enjoys provoking abuse.

BTW, why the silence on the true violent soccer fans of the world, the English soccer hooligans.
----
You need to head down to South America. They have moats , fencing and razor wire surrounding some of the fields in their stadiums. Along with armed security guards with trained dogs !! It is not for show, that is for sure.
Down there, a poor showing in the World Cup can get a player killed !!

Because they are the ones that are still stuck there. The best of any culture, country or race always leaves what they see to be corrupt, unfruitful and hopeless.
There may be some frustration and envy on the part of the ones that are here, but, by and large, they work, support their families, and don't cause trouble.....
You'd better get used to it, your grandchildren will undoubtedly learn to speak spanish as a necessity

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, we don't take it nearly as seriously as the rest of the world. I'm still waiting for the big soccer explosion in the US they've been calling for over the last 20 years.

When the U.S. stops sponsoring terrorism, and starts cracking down on terrorism at home (the KKK and the LAPD), the English may start respecting our moral leadership. As things stand, British newspapers are as likely to call George Bush 'the mad bomber' as they are Osama bin Laden. Despite British involvement in the war, 54% of Britons think the bombing should be suspended. Why They Hate America-in Britain

BTW, are all Bostonians violent and low class, because of the riots that happened after the Superbowl. No. But if you would've chosen as your subject Philadelphia Eagles fans, I might have a different answer

And this is the nation with which we have a porous-to-nonexistent border...and we're bending over backwards for their "guest workers"?

I'm still waiting for the big soccer explosion in the US they've been calling for over the last 20 years. I think they are going backwards. 20 years ago, I remember watching, I can't remember what it was called though, the outdoor soccer league in Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. I believe there was also an indoor league that was sort of popular, MISL? I think both of those leagues folded, the Women's Soccer LEague just folded didn't it?
IMHO, soccer is fun to play, but tedious to watch.
