Actually, I know several people who got hired recently.. Decent pay, too. I am starting to look for a new job (this one took advantage of the bad market and pays crap).

A couple job sites I have been to (dice.com and monster.com) have hot jobs for database administrators with Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
The dirty little secret about IT jobs going offshore is that in the long term it's more expensive to offshore (management costs, coordination) than it is to keep US nationals employed.

Wy wife's degree is in marketing. She just got hired by a major bank in Texas at about 12% higher than the market salary. The important thing is that the job was created because of increased business just two months ago, so she gives herself a little credit for landing it and George Bush a little credit for helping to create it.

With the many jobs transferred out of the country, there's enough left in this country to actually make a report. Unbelievable!

I have a B.A. in European History and a minor in British Literature. I was making $50K 2 years out of college in a Network Support position. Self-taught after college. ;-)

LOL It didn't take long for folks to convince me. I have a 'back up' plan in case colleges don't find my 'The Footprints of the English' book series interesting.

So the government is paying way over market for business degrees? Once again we see our tax dollars at work.

What is a degree in "Black Studies" with a minor in "Womyn History" worth?About 2 cents. When a person considers the amount of money invested in such a bs degree, then that amount descends into negative integers.

Self-taught after college. ;-) My experience has been similar. Twenty years as a phototypesetter; self-taught in PC hardware/software, and got myself an entry-level job in networking, then branched out to something better.

I was a court reporter for a short period of time......I left it and went to work for my husband in our family business........family first, ya know!!......can you make 6 figures in court reporting????? YES!!!!! Is it a hard row to hoe to get there????? YES!!!!! A 2 yr curriculum by all accounts but MAN-OH-MAN you are working for those two years and it ain't easy!!!!
And.....it is a business where you can make your own hours (that's why I chose to do it) pretty much, but like any successful career, the "go-getters" are the ones who ALWAYS come out on top. When you work a long trial and have large transcripts to sell (1,000 pages say..at $5.00 for the first page and then 1.50 a page thereafter, YOU figure it out) and unless you work directly for a judge - YOU basically own those transcripts. So when copies are needed, you collect the fees to produce them!
