Growing frustration over President Bush's immigration plan and lack of fiscal discipline came to a head behind closed doors at last weekend's Republican retreat in Philadelphia.

House lawmakers, stunned by the intensity of their constituents' displeasure at some of Mr. Bush's key domestic policies, gave his political strategist Karl Rove an earful behind closed doors.

The GOP is no better served by a yes-forum than President Bush is served by yes-men.

Amen.

"You keep butting in with inanities."

Are you implying humor has no value and has no place in the "Republican" party?

*"The value of your vote is not determined by the values that motivate it."

**To whom?

The ballot box.

If I'm voting for a candidate, I ultimately don't care if someone else votes for him because he's taller, or his wife is cuter.

At what point does the pursuit of somebody's vote override the values that motiveat the vote?

Not sure I follow the question.

" THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRACY; WE ARE A REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC!"

And those who made it known to there congress critters have made it know to Bush and Rove.

"You don't have a voice in that."

To hell I don't.

You scare me with your reasoning. I mean are there Americans who really believe what you are saying. Ouch! That is messed up. You are pushing me farther away from voting for Bush...not closer. That is about all I have to say at this time.

We are discussing how deeply we should be expected to French-kiss liberals in order to win in November, basically.

What is better than wining? Losing on "principle"? That'll work.

I know and what I said still stands. Far too many here neither know much about, nor understand politics....or much else; unfortunately.

Oh, I've French kissed a few liberals in my day! Not entirely a bad experience. *L*

But then, I have also kissed the Blarney stone, and people pee on that all the time! *L*

I have NO standards, me.

It was in response to your post where you stated that the fact of somebody's vote was quite independent of the motivation to register said vote.

There's NO Perot, there was NO lesson taught in '92, and a lot of voters are morons, stupid, selfish, and will vote Dem.

It was taught. Was it learned?

We'll see.

OTOH, though I am NOT overconfident, I do think that the president will be reelected.-)

I tend to agree. I'm concerned about the effects down ticket if the races is close.
