[history]
Growing frustration over President Bush's immigration plan and lack of fiscal discipline came to a head behind closed doors at last weekend's Republican retreat in Philadelphia.
House lawmakers, stunned by the intensity of their constituents' displeasure at some of Mr. Bush's key domestic policies, gave his political strategist Karl Rove an earful behind closed doors.

by letting the lunatic left drive its agenda. When conservatives run on principle, they win. (Reagan) When they play politics, they lose. (Bush 1)

My objection to this is not that the Representatives voiced their constituents' concerns to Rove and Bolten; my objection is that Tancredo and others just couldn't wait to run to the Washington
Times and tell their side of what happened.
It is the same objection I have to the vituperative attacks on Bush's policy on this forum; large-scale disagreements should not be aired in public, because it gives the Rats ammo.
Tancredo's running to the press with the story of this retreat gives the Rats an idea for a wedge issue which will cause us trouble. Tancredo also, in my opinion, is trying real hard to make himself look more important than he is.

They did not do so in 2000 or in 2002. 4 million "base" voters stayed at home or voted for PJB in 2000.

Okay, sorry. I'm just getting frustrated with the level of denial No problem .. I'm use to it
And there is no denial .. As I stated earlier, I have no problem with them voicing the concerns and objections ... I agree the spending is out of control and some stupid bills were passed .. but to lay this at the feet of the President is a copout
These congress people should have worried about all of this when the were making and passing the bills
can you not agree with that part?

When I need help from you to "think" I will ask for it. The GOP is doing just fine and will continue to do just fine unless it makes the mistake the DNC is making by letting the lunatic left drive its agenda. Applause! THAT is a keeper. Nite, Tex, and yall.

The point still remains that these Congress folks make and pass these billsAnd my point, whether you think it matters or not, is that you are promoting the idea that Republicans in Congress ought to have opposed (and be opposing) the President's agenda.
My subsidiary point is that this would not have been helpful to the Republican party.
I am glad we are able to discuss these issues. Now go to bed, and may you awake refreshed and thankful. ( :

"having fun with the Bushbot's lately. They are wussies".Unable to face the truth. Absolutely. People who admit things as they are, then work to change them, show backbone.
Again, it's a good thing that these representatives said what they did. Now, some Freepers come along and call them hypocrites?!? Absolutely a sign of intellectual weakness.(wussiness -LOL) They don't want to face the source of these policies, a bad aganda, and support their correction. Yes, they voted on it, but they are changing their view, and I applaud them for it.

So the Gingrich Revolution It happened because the public was repulsed by Clinton and Hillarycare. Two years later the public was equally repulsed by Newt for the same reasons.

These congress people should have worried about all of this when the were making and passing the billsYES. In fact, Bush hung up on Feeney when he was trying to rally support for the Medicare bill and Feeney woudn't back him. So some of them have been consistent. More are coming around it seems.

We don't need your help for sure.It appears that the help of the base is precisely what our representatives are trying not to lose. President Bush may or may not be able to afford to lose it, but in local elections it is very useful, in fact, it's vital.

The GOP is doing just fineEvidence A: AP Poll Notes Decline in Support for Bush
Evidence B:
Growing frustration over President Bush's immigration plan and lack of fiscal discipline came to a head behind closed doors at last weekend's Republican retreat in Philadelphia. Some are not ignoring the evidence.
