I had the distinct displeasure of meeting a very large monitor lizard type one day in the Phillipines a few years back.
I was riding a horse I had rented ( that only understood Tagalog) and it dumped me and ran off. I had to walk back.
Those guys are nasty.

My sister-in-law, who is from the Philippines, wanted to eat our friends iguana (the friends were looking for a new home for the iguana). I was never quite sure if my s-i-l was serious or not.
