He blames Farah, 5, in video statement

In a self-pitying, teary performance, the father of Farah Khan blamed the five-year-old girl for making him dismember her and bury the body parts in two Etobicoke parks. Farah forced her father's hand by slitting her own throat and then dying in his arms, Muhammad Arsal Khan told detectives in a videotaped statement played in court yesterday.

Pleading for freedom and leniency from the police and mercy from Allah, Khan admitted he chopped up his daughter's body because he feared being accused of murdering her.

"Nobody would have believed my word -- that the girl had committed the crime herself," he said.

'SHE WAS FINISHED'

"Sir, when I came home, she was flopping around, she urinated ... and she was finished. This is what happened," the weeping Khan said. "Now the brain didn't work (and) I became frightened, I will become a murderer! I became a murderer!

"This is my story, I can't even tell this to anyone. Allah save me! Allah save me! I'm going to die inside. I will die but I did not commit any crime.

"Please, for God's sake, have pity on me. Do this for me that my life becomes free after seven, eight months. I won't tell anyone ... please help me in that," Khan implored detectives Rolf Prisor, Stephen Bell and Det. Const. Sal Bazmi, an Urdu translator.

Khan, 40, and his ex-wife, Kaneez Fatima, 49, have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the December 1999 slaying of Farah.

Khan has admitted he killed Farah -- but not intentionally -- and chopped up the body and buried the parts to conceal the crime.

In his statement, Khan said he feared the news of his arrest and his daughter's death could kill his sickly parents.

He portrayed himself as a victim, a hard-working immigrant, a loving father and husband -- but he couldn't remember his wife's age.

Yesterday would have been Farah's 10th birthday -- she was killed two months before her sixth birthday.

"This whole thing is nature's punishment. I am not a criminal ... nor have I fled the country. I'm only in trouble with nature. I have tried to hide it with my intelligence," Khan told police.

"If I had only known the law, I would have taken your help."

Khan never said a kind word about his deceased daughter, but repeatedly said that his life was ruined by her actions.

"What tyranny has happened to us ... I have already died, I have been robbed, what is left with me," Khan said.

The trial continues today.

In typically lacadaisical Canadian "injustice system" style, this outrage has so far taken 4 years to come to Trial and now the unaccountable Crown Attorney and Judge involved estimate this legal "slam-dunk" will be dragged out over a further 3 months of their "pensionable time".

Meanwhile, after a couple of 2 week Trials, the US had one of the "Washington snipers" serving a life term and the other on death row in barely more than a year!
