Man Pleads Guilty in Molestation of 8-Year-Old (8 yo pregnant)

A Queens sock vendor pleaded guilty yesterday to molesting and impregnating his girlfriend's 8-year-old daughter and faces 20 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Chancellor Drayton, 44, of 4-21 27th Ave. in Astoria, was charged with first-degree rape, police said, after the girl's grandmother found a "Dear Dad" love letter in which the child wrote that she enjoyed having sex with him and added, "I want to marry you." The girl's mother, a Fort Greene resident, contacted police, and tests showed that her daughter was 15 weeks pregnant.

At the mother's request, an abortion was performed and police arrested Drayton two weeks later. Prosecutors contended that he had sex with the girl at least four times between Dec. 2001 and Oct. 30, 2002 - usually while the mother, a student at Baruch College, was running errands.

An 8-yr-old beginning menstruation is still within the "normal" range....a 2-yo, no way.

That's exactly the problem. Death doesn't work in rape unless you want to further endanger the victim.

The average age of puberty has been dropping steadily, I think it's about 10 years for girls now. It's not uncommon for black girls to enter puberty at 8 and white girls at 9.

I wonder if it doesn't have to do with all the growth hormones in food making menstruation begin earlier over all. Of course sometimes it's just genetics, everyone in my family started early.

I've heard a few theories on this... First off, better nutrition. It's a fact that improved nutrition in just the last few hundred years has led to Americans being taller than their colonial ancestors. It's thought by some that better nutrition allows girls to mature faster.

Antoher theory is due to eating more meat that has been treated with growth hormones, which causes faster maturation.

No one has yet to comment on the abortion. On first glance, I was sickened by it, but in this case, such a small, young girl, perhaps her health really would have been threatened?

I thought about abortion as soon as I started reading the article. FWIW, I am against abortion, unless the mother's life is at risk. In the case of rape, I would hope that people would counsel the rape victim against getting an abortion, since the child, while tragic, is still going to by yet another victim of the rape. However, I would be against forcing the rape victim to carry the child... This is one case where I do agree 100% in the woman's right to "choose."

However, in the case of an 8 year old girl, I don't think that there's any way that the child could be brought to term. I'm pretty sure that the girl's skellatal structure wouldn't allow birth, and given the developing body and systems, it would probably be terribly dangerous to even try bringing the child to term.

So I feel that the rape victim's mother made the right decision. Sometimes you have to make terrible decisions.
