Thompson said Hastert's promise on the tobacco legislation, along with his commitment to support Kerr if she is elected, could influence the district's 19,000 tobacco farmers. Thompson also said tobacco farmers have become "very depressed" as buyout legislation stalled in Congress.

This certainly puts Kerr on offense with less than two weeks to go. Chandler had taken the offensive on a couple on things, including veterans. Now the tables are turned.
