Refugees return to Kosovo capital
From correspondents in Pristina, Serbia-Montenegro
February 5, 2004
THE organised return of Serbs driven out of the Kosovo capital in 1999 began today with the arrival of four people.
The family of three returned to their Pristina home with the assistance of the United Nations and the Danish Refugee Council, and temporarily took in another Serb woman until she can resettle in her house.
It is estimated that some 220,000 Serbs fled the province, which has a predominantly Albanian population, after a NATO bombing campaign against Yugoslavia forced Belgrade to withdraw its security forces which had been pursuing a brutal crackdown in the region.
A NATO-led peacekeeping force, KFOR, moved into the province in 1999 when the UN took control of its administration, but fear of retribution has meant that only several Serbs have returned home by themselves, according to official data.
Today, around 80,000 Serbs live in Kosovo, mainly in KFOR-guarded enclaves.

2004:
"I have decided to cast my vote in the primary for [General] Wesley Clark. That's right, a [hypocrite] peacenik like me is voting for a general. What a country! My vote for Clark is one of conscience [not!]. I feel so strongly about this that I'm going to devote the next few weeks of my life to do everything I can to help Wesley Clark win. I would love it if you would join me on this mission and if Clark has become a liberal Democrat, is that not something to cheer? In addition to voting for Wesley Clark, I will also be spending part of my Bush tax cut to help him out. I strongly urge you to vote for Wes Clark."
