Several years ago on a 14th Amendment thread, a FReeper said that the 14th Amendment introduced Roman Law into the Constitution for the first time. (I don't know if that's true or not.) It certainly has been a source of mischief on the part of the courts.

Some researchers believe the 14th changed our status as free born Americans within a constituional republic into one of being a "federal or statutory" citizen to be used as chattel or collateral as the DC corp. emerged from bankruptcy in the 30's. Federal citizens do not have God given const. rights, instead they have "civil rights" as designated or decreed by the fedgov.
